SILKS: Matthews offers three types of silk in both White and Black: Artificial Silk, China Silk, and 1/4 Stop Silk.
While the properties of each vary, they all have essentially the same purpose, which is to be used for medium diffusion
at varying degrees. White Artificial Silk offers the most diffusion at a light loss of 1.6 stops with a significant amount
of ambient bounce (its counter, Black Silk offers no ambient bounce). China Silk is 1 stop light loss and 1/4 Stop
Silk is about 0.6 stops light loss. The safety characteristics of each of these silks vary per the table below. Available
in any size you want silks can be purchased either by the yard or bolt.

significant amount of ambient bounce.
Silk (Artificial) - Black 60” 1.8 Stops Black Flame Retardant Softens and diffuses direct light without
introducing ambient bounce.
1/4 Stop Silk - White 118” 0.6 Stops White Self Extinguishing Slightly softens and diffuses light, without much
reduction of light intensity. Introduces a significant
amount of ambient bounce.
1/4 Stop Silk - Black 118” 0.7 Stops Black Self Extinguishing Slightly softens and diffuses light.
Does not introduce ambient bounce.
China Silk - White 45” 1.0 Stops White Not Treated Softens light without a great reduction of intensity.
Introduces a significant amount of ambient bounce.
China Silk - Black 45” 1.0 Stops Black Not Treated Softens light without a great reduction of intensity.
LAME: The Matthews Lames are ultra soft reflectors treated to be a self-extinguishing fabric that will give you
a subtle reflective bounce. While both fabrics brighten your shot without being harsh, gold lames will give you a
warmer effect. Lames are also available in a checkerboard pattern which offers the benefit of the punch of silver
fabric along with the warmth of the gold.
Available in any size you want they can be purchased by both the yard and the bolt.
