SimAngus Bulls
Finale sons . . . have earned the lead off position of our
2012 sale catalog. We have been ask the question hundreds
of times over the past year or so, “what herd sire is coming
along to take Rookie’s place?” It will take a tremendous bull
to fi ll the void of Rookie and we do not have enough years
of data or daughters in production on Finale to confi rm that
he is the bull, however at this time he sure looks promising
enough to earn the lead off sire group of sons in this year’s
sale catalog. Much of his data in the American Simmental
Association genetic evaluation has come from the Carcass
Merit Program herds where his fi rst calves were born in the
spring of 2011. Additional data has been added from a few
other herds that sampled him as a yearling bull, but his big
inclusion of data will come in the next two genetic evaluations.
At this point in time, we feel comfortable that he has proven
to be a safe sire for use on heifers as evidenced by his top 10%
CE and top 15% BE EPDs and will easily have performance in the
top 15% - 20% of the breed. His progeny are loaded with muscle,
have extra rib expansion, and have proven to be big footed and
sound structured. It also appears he will be a frame reducer in
most cases. In comparing him in our herd to his maternal brother,
Dual Focus, he will consistently have slightly lower birth weight,
more performance, a little more robust look, and accomplish it all
in a package with no more frame size than Dual Focus. He can be
best described as a sire of low birth weight and extra performance
power in a smaller frame size package. Finale will be a heavily
used A.I. sire in our breeding program this coming winter, so be
expecting a large sire group of his sons in our 2014 Sale.
Finale earns the lead off sire group for this year’s sale and no cow family has earned the lead off bull position better than the Mabelle cow family. This is the same cow family that produced
Black Joker, one of the most infl uential sires of the Simmental breed over the past two decades and whose daughters are dominating the breed today as high producing cows. We currently
have over 40 females in our herd carrying the Mabelle cow family name and the granddam of Lot 1, Mabelle N341, has emerged as one of the best. Watch for her name throughout this
year’s sale offering and you will see the evidence of her potent genetic value to our herd. Lot 1 is slightly below breed average for BW EPD, yet ranks in the top 15% of the breed for YW
EPD. He had a great carcass ultrasound scan that helped move him into the top 10% of the breed for both Marb and REA EPDs. His pedigree and individual performance rank him in the
elite young sires we are offering this year, but that’s not all he has to offer. When you evaluate him in person, you will be just as impressed with what you see as what you read on this great
young herd sire. He is Lot 1 in the 2012 Gibbs Farms Sale for a reason.
This Finale son is also a product of the Mabelle cow family, but from a daughter of our Mabelle M275 cow who is a bigger frame, more powerhouse cow that generally passes those
attributes along to her ancesters. Lot 2 lives up to those predictions as he is a little bigger frame, a little more birth weight, and loaded with performance power as well as very high carcass
potential. Since we are just beginning to learn the new look to the ASA EPDs after the Fall 2012 base change, his 2.3 BW EPD may seem high compared to the EPD base of the past, but
he is only about one lb. above breed average, so he is not really a high birth weight bull, just a little above average and loaded with performance power and that same huge middle and
look of his slightly smaller frame brothers.
