Optimize was developed to carry out reliability,
availability and maintainability (RAM) analysis. The
software was developed by IRC engineers who
required a more powerful modelling tool for their
calculations than was available on the market. The
solution – develop their own.
While lowest cost is seen as being an important
dimension in remaining competitive in the
consulting market, Morris also cites quality of
product as an equally important aspect.
“The emphasis continues to be on producing
outputs of the highest technical quality.”
Establishing an office in Houston was a recent
challenge to IRC, and an interesting learning
experience. Citing new opportunities and growth as
their reasons for choice of location, the initial stages
of the set up were difficult but rewarding. They
intend to apply the model to establishing other
overseas locations to serve the energy industry’s
risk management requirements.
Their commitment to the Australian market,
however, continues to remain a priority. While giving
IRC staff opportunities to gain overseas work
experience, Morris recognises that returning to
Australia is just a fact of life for Australians.
