SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES
Present: Chief Justice Rehnquist, Justice Stevens, Justice O’Connor,
Justice Scalia, Justice Kennedy, Justice Souter, Justice Thomas, Justice
Ginsburg, and Justice Breyer.
The Chief Justice said:
“I have the honor to announce, on behalf of the Court that the October
2001 Term of the Supreme Court of the United States is now
closed, and the October 2002 Term is now convened.
“Today’s orders of the Court have been duly entered and certified
and filed with the Clerk and they will not be otherwise announced.
“The Court today notes the retirement of Chief Deputy Clerk Francis
Lorson. Mr. Lorson served in various capacities in the Clerk’s Office
for more than thirty years. The Court thanks him for his long and
dedicated service. We wish him well in his retirement. The Court has
appointed Christopher Vasil as Chief Deputy Clerk and Cynthia Rapp
as Deputy Clerk.”
