Wavefront sensing with random amplitude mask and phase retrieval
Abstract: A new practical method for wavefront sensing using a random amplitude mask and a
phase retrieval method based on the wave propagation equation is described. The proposed
inexpensive wavefront sensor has a resolution of half the laser wavelength (0.315 µm). The
proposed sensor has many potential applications such as measurement and correction of lens
aberration for astronomy and ophthalmology. The proposed sensor can also applied for phase
contrast imaging of microscopic specimens, 3D shape and photo-elastic measurements for
industrial non-destructive testing.
