1. Highlights<br />
<strong>NIP</strong> graduated 1 Cum Laude (Michelle Francisco B.S. Applied Physics) , 3 Magna Cum Laudes<br />
(Christian Alis, George Allan Esleta and Lourdes Patricia Ramirez, all B.S. Applied Physics) and 1<br />
Summa Cum Laude in Mikaela Irene Fudolig (B.S. Physics) who also became the University<br />
Valedictorian and at 16 was the youngest Summa Cum Laude in the University <strong>of</strong> the Philippine's<br />
history. A total <strong>of</strong> 29 students, 15 in Applied Physics and 14 in Physics, obtained their Bachelor in<br />
<strong>Science</strong> degrees.<br />
Eight (8) were conferred with Ph.D. In Physics degrees at the April <strong>2006</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Science</strong><br />
Commencement Exercises. <strong>The</strong>se were Drs. Carlo Amadeo Alonzo, Vernon Julius Cemine, Nathaniel<br />
Hermosa II, Dranreb Earl Juanico, Wilma Oblefias, Darwin Palima, Florencio Recoleto Jr., and Alvarado<br />
Tarun.<br />
<strong>The</strong>re were 11 MS Physics graduates (4 as <strong>of</strong> summer <strong>2006</strong>, 1 as <strong>of</strong> 1st sem AY <strong>2006</strong>-<strong>2007</strong> and 6 as <strong>of</strong><br />
2nd sem AY <strong>2006</strong>-<strong>2007</strong>) in the April <strong>2006</strong> CS recognition program.<br />
Seven (7) students enrolled in the M.A. Program at the start <strong>of</strong> the Academic Year. One has a full<br />
scholarship and the rest teach in tertiary and secondary schools. This lead to a review <strong>of</strong> the M.A.<br />
Program and the <strong>of</strong>fering <strong>of</strong> M.A. Courses.<br />
Graduate students were given a study room at the start <strong>of</strong> the first sem AY 06-07. PH 3210 became the<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficial “Tambayan” for <strong>NIP</strong> graduate students.<br />
Five (5) B.S. Students who were in senior standing but had no laboratory affiliation were assigned thesis<br />
advisers. Of the 5 students assigned, 2 successfully defended their thesis, with one (Karen Patricia<br />
Ramirez) garnering the Best B.S. Physics <strong>The</strong>sis award.<br />
<strong>The</strong> first ever placement interview for applicants to the <strong>NIP</strong> graduate program was held in <strong>May</strong> <strong>2007</strong>.<br />
M.S. Physics Programs <strong>of</strong> study designed for accepted non-<strong>NIP</strong> alumni applicants were for 3 years<br />
instead <strong>of</strong> 2 to allow students to take up prerequisite courses. All programs were defaulted to non-thesis<br />
option. <strong>The</strong> student may apply to shift to the thesis option if he or she is accepted to be supervised by a<br />
research adviser in his or her second year <strong>of</strong> study.<br />
