N.O. 93 REWARDS FOR ARREST OF DESERTERS.
1Q14~~ With reference to Article 49A of Financial and Allowance
Regulations, rewards for arrest of deserters from the
Eoyal Australian Wavy may be paid at the following rates
from 1st July, 1914:—
Up to a limit of £2 for a straggler;
Up to a limit of £6 for a deserter or presumed
deserter.
Financial and Allowance Regulations will be amended
accordingly. (1ST. 14/835.)

Syllabus of Instruction, Spectacle Island. N.O. 94
As much instruction as the resources of Spectacle Island 1914,
will admit is to be given in the following subjects:— continued.
(1) Dismounting Breech Mechanism of 13.5-in.,
12-In., 9.2-in., 6-in., 4.7-in., Q.F. 4-in., 12pounder
Q.F., 6 and 3 pr., Hotchkiss 3-pr.
Semi-auto., and mounting same, and explanation
of working parts.
(2) To adapt power-worked mechanism for working
by hand and hydraulic.
(3) Stripping and assembling of all locks, E. and
P. and Box Slides.
(4) Description of all aiming rifles and sub-calibres,
and points to be observed in fitting same.
(5) What to do in the case of an " R." Gun being
turned over and used as an " L." Gun.
(6) Description of implements for taking impressions,
taking impressions, and instruction on impressions
of past defects in bores and causes of
same.
(7) Measuring bores of guns and reading micrometer.
(8) Decoppering bores of guns by the different processes,
first lapping, electric and chemical.
(9) Instructions in gauging protrusion gun locks,
firing pins, strikers, firing hole brush, obturator,
testing blow of striker, eccentricity of striker,
vent chamber, and crusher gauges.
(10) Instructions in preservation and repair of
ordnance and defects that would cause provisional
condemnation.
(11) Testing of clynometer planes and clynometers.
(12) Testing of obturator seating.
(13) Practical instructions in lapping out bores of
guns and visits of inspection to gun-mounting
shop, sight erecting and testing shop, telescope
adjustment shop and general visitation to any
part of the Depot containing anything of
interest to armourers.
(14) Inspection of any interesting operations in
factory. ,
General.—Not more than four (4) ratings are to he, sent at
any one time.
The Chief Armourer at the Naval Ordnance Depot will
assist when his Depot duties will admit.
