in Woburn
"It's a new job for
Woburn's Michael
Concannon and one that pre-
sents some major chal
lenges," notes the Woburn
edition of the "Daily Times
Chronicle."
"It's also a new job that
puts him in the eye of the
storm and a challenge to pull
it all together with all police
agencies in the state, includ-
ing the FBI.
"Concannon, a Woburn
native and graduate of
Woburn U.S. in 1982. was
named in recent weeks to the
post of Undersecretary of
Public Safety for Law
Enforcement for the
Commonwealth 1
Massachusetts.
"Governor Mitt Romncv
had a hands-on approach in
the selection that includes
bringing together all of the
public safety units within the
state under a unified plan to
meet every imaginable
threat to the state's citizens
"Concannon, a Central
Square resident, is no
stranger to anyone in
Woburn He has been an
active community leader for
the past two decades or
more, including being the
president of the Woburn Host
Lions Club.
"Now, his role with the
State Police has taken on a
different meaning as it
means coordinating the
Mass. National Guard, Mass.
State Police, the Boston
police, suburban police and
others with a unified com-
mand to meel an ever-chang-
ing world.
"Concannon talked to the
Woburn Rotary Club at its
noontime luncheon, accom-
panied by a former boss.'
Woburn Mayor Thomas
Mclaughlin, who was actual-
ly a captain in command of
Concannon's troop when
Concannon began his career
"Concannon earned his
recent spurs with events like
the Democratic National
Convention that came off
basically without incident.
There were events like the
2004 World Series that raised
everyone's consciousness
about public safety..."
Other things
competing' in
Burlington
"At the Planning Board
meeting, which was Paul
Roth's last - he chose not to
run for re-election, and is
being replaced by Joseph
Impemba - he received as a
going-away gift from the
board a commemorative
notebook and daily planner,"
notes the Burlington edition
of the "Daily Times
Chronicle."
"He should have no prob-
lem filling it, because he had
previously told his colleagues
that other commitments
played a key role in his
choosing not to run.
"It has honestly been a
delight for me,' said Roth,
who spent nine years on the
Planning Board.
"There are other things
competing for my time now,
but I'm not going to say I'm
not going to miss it, and 1
will definitely be watching
you guys,' Roth went on to
say.
"The six other board
members took their turns
recalling Roth's tenure on
the panel.
"Ernie Covino noted how
Roth played a key role in the
development of the Shaw's
supermarket at the corner of
Winn and Cambridge Streets
"'Your work helped put
that building where it is,'
said Covino 'We thank you
for your hard work.'
"'You always followed
through and were always
thorough, we were always
looking for your input,' said
board member Albert Fay
"We wish you well ..'"
