UMPIRES SET DATE<br />

FOR TRAINING PROGRAM<br />

The Merrimack Valley<br />

Umpires Association (MVUA)<br />

announces that the umpiring<br />

clinic for adult men, women<br />

and teenagers (over 16) who<br />

want to be trained as certified<br />

(patched) baseball umpires, is<br />

scheduled to begin on Thursday,<br />

July 13 and continue on consec-<br />

utive Thursdays for the next<br />

seven weeks. The official<br />

umpire's exam will be adminis-<br />

tered at the end of the seven<br />

week class.<br />

"I am always amazed that<br />

even though the MVUA has<br />

grown to over 150 members, we<br />

still do not have enough<br />

umpires to do all the games we<br />

are asked to cover," said Steve<br />

Martinelli, President of the<br />

MVUA.<br />

The clinics will be held from<br />

6:30 - 9 p.m. at St. Mary of the<br />

Assumption School in Lawrence<br />

college, AAU, Babe Ruth to<br />

Little League in Mass. and New<br />

Hampshire. The MVUA has<br />

been providing quality umpires<br />

to this area for over 50 years<br />

and is the oldest umpiring orga-<br />

toric plant materials, discover<br />

the history of the building, and<br />

grapes grown from cuttings<br />

taken in the 1880s from the<br />

royal greenhouses at Hampton<br />
