organogenesis. However, throughout the book the stress lies on the former,
and more particularly on its earlier phases.
The book is richly illustrated, mainly with line drawings of histological
sections. The book contains a bibliography of 11 pages, and is concluded by
subject, taxonomic and author indexes.
'DEVELOPMENTAL GENETICS AND LETHAL FACTORS"
1961
by E. Hadorn Methuen & Cy. Ltd.
(translated by U. Mittwoch) London
373 pp., 129 figs., 27 tabs. John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
New York
Price: 52 s. 6 d.
This book is largely a direct translation of the German edition "Letalfaktoren
in ihrer Bedeutung fur Erbpathologie und Genphysiologie", which
appeared in 1955, and which was reviewed in the Supplement to the sixth
issue of this periodical (1956, p. 18).
The author states that it would have been impossible to incorporate all the
literature which appeared since 1955, without rewriting the entire book. Nevertheless,
data from about 100 recent publications have been included in the
English edition. The plan of the book has remained unaltered. The same holds
for the illustrative material used. The price of the English edition is lower than
that of the German one, while the presentation is also very good.
"THE HATCHABILITY OF CHICKEN EGGS AS INFLUENCED BY
ENVIRONMENT AND HEREDITY"
1961
by W. Landauer
Univ. of Connecticut
(Monograph nr. 1) Agr. Exp. Stat., Storrs, Conn.
278 pp., 56 figs., 75 tabs.
The subject matter covered by this monograph is adequately indicated by
its title. It is not necessary, therefore, to enumerate here the various chapters.
The book is essentially a work of compilation. The amount of information
gathered is reflected in the size of the bibliography, which covers 74 pages,
that is, nearly 30 % of the book.
