Human Resources<br />
The growth of C&K with new services opening in <strong>2011</strong> has been demonstrated in <strong>the</strong> increase of<br />
new staff, at services and in <strong>the</strong> central office. A focus on improving processes, communication<br />
and providing ongoing professional development for all staff was implemented to minimise <strong>the</strong><br />
challenges of <strong>the</strong> rapid growth of <strong>the</strong> organisation.<br />
In <strong>2011</strong>, <strong>the</strong> 240 kindergarten project saw 11 new kindergartens opened and a fur<strong>the</strong>r 65 new kindergarten services planned for<br />
2012, this is more than 150 new staff. Employee turnover remains reasonably constant and employee absenteeism continues<br />
to be low. The percentage of permanent staff within C&K increased from 71% in 2010 to 75% in <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
Key highlights<br />
• Recognition from <strong>the</strong> Equal Opportunity for Women in <strong>the</strong><br />
Workplace Agency as “Employer of Choice for Women” for<br />
<strong>the</strong> third consecutive year. C&K was one of 12<br />
organisations in Queensland and 99 nationally that have<br />
received this honour for <strong>2011</strong>. This recognition is awarded<br />
to organisations that are acknowledged to have in place<br />
programs that recognise, support and advance <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
female workforce.<br />
• The launch of a refreshed recruitment brand, “Come Play<br />
with Us”, that highlights <strong>the</strong> C&K Building waterfalls<br />
second edition and reflects <strong>the</strong> C&K brand.<br />
Agreements<br />
• Negotiation of one Enterprise Agreement approved by<br />
Fair Work Australia and covers <strong>the</strong> staff members in all<br />
C&K branch kindergartens.<br />
• The recruitment team negotiated an agreement with a<br />
recruitment agency, which resulted in a significant cost<br />
saving in agency fees.<br />

Payroll<br />
• Following <strong>the</strong> introduction of <strong>the</strong> online relief staff booking<br />
and scheduling system in 2010, <strong>2011</strong> involved Human<br />
Resources ensuring this system is now integrated with<br />
our payroll system to assist in simplifying <strong>the</strong> process for<br />
all involved. On average in <strong>2011</strong>, 93% of all relief staff shifts<br />
within our services were filled with our own pool of casual<br />
staff through <strong>the</strong> system.<br />
• A salary packaging program was created and <strong>the</strong><br />
implementation project commenced, an additional benefit<br />
for our team members.<br />
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander strategies<br />
• Commenced work on strategies to increase <strong>the</strong> number of<br />
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders working within C&K,<br />
including making a commitment through <strong>the</strong> Australian<br />
Employment Covenant.
