Pharmacy Technician Certificate<br />

The need for Pharmacy Technicians is increasing with the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting a 31 percent job<br />

increase by 2018. This statistic is confirmed by data from the <strong>Connecticut</strong> Department of Labor projecting a similar increase in this job<br />

category for the North Central region.<br />

In partnership with the <strong>Connecticut</strong> Pharmacists Association, this comprehensive program prepares individuals for entry-level positions<br />

in community, hospital, or long-term care settings. Participants will be prepared for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)<br />

national certification exam.<br />

Topics will include medical terminology, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names.<br />

Participants will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rate, drug compounding and dose conversion, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory<br />

control, billing, and insurance reimbursement.<br />

Pre-requisites: Participants must have a high school diploma or GED, and computer keyboarding skills.<br />

running smoothly? In addition to physicians and registered nurses, there are also highly skilled administrative medical assistants. This<br />

program is a great choice for someone who has an interest in medicine but also enjoys an office type environment.<br />

process medical correspondence.<br />

Additionally, you’ll learn how to determine insurance coverage, and gain a comprehensive knowledge of accounting, filing procedures,<br />

and customer service by enrolling in this course. You’ll also be exposed to governmental policies that include OSHA, HIPAA, DEA and CLIA<br />

regulations. Completers will be prepared to register for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam (the cost of the exam<br />
