gente de sesenta países distintos, y ha sido una
oportunidad única.
Pero sobre todo, lo más importante fue lo
que aprendí de mis nuevos amigos, sobre sus países,
sus culturas, sus lenguas y sus personalidades. Ahora
tenemos amigos en muchos países europeos. No
olvidaré a mis amigos del grupo, especialmente
el tiempo que pasamos en Sarria. Por ejemplo,
echaré mucho de menos las conversaciones sobre
el futuro con Ole, aprender cosas de su país y su
humor, escuchar a Damiano tocando la guitarra, con
su increíble capacidad para ejercer de diccionario
de español viviente, y las charlas con Alex sobre
filosofía, historia y música.
La experiencia de nuestro proyecto SVE ha
reafirmado mi creencia de que una persona puede
considerar su identidad como la de ciudadano del
mundo. Realmente, compartimos tantos elementos
culturales con personas a través del globo, que es
absolutamente sorprendente todo lo que tenemos en
común. Las diferencias que existen entre países son
una enorme herencia para la raza humana, de una
diversidad que añade fascinación e interés a la vida.
En los días que quedan del proyecto, uno
fácilmente puede tener sensación de tristeza ante el
fin de siete meses maravillosos. Por supuesto, hay
una parte de esta emoción que uno siente. Pero
incluso así, el convencimiento de que se ha ganado
algo, algo intangible, es tranquilizador. He absorbido
y asimilado mucho, y aprendido otro tanto. Los
peregrinos y mis compañeros de proyecto han dejado
su huella, metafóricamente hablando, a través de sus
conversaciones y todas las experiencias compartidas.

Moreover, we now have many friends in many
European countries. I will not forget my friends
in our group, especially the time that we spent
together in Sarria. For example, I will very much
miss the conversations with Ole about the future,
learning about his country, and his humour; listening
to Damiano playing the guitar and his incredible
capacity to act as a human Spanish dictionary; and
the chats with Alex about philosophy and music.
The experience of our EVS project has
reinforced my belief that a person can consider their
identity to be that of a world citizen. In truth, we
share so many cultural elements with people from
across the globe that it is truly surprising just how
much we all share in common. The differences that
do exist between each country are a rich cultural
heritage for the human race, a diversity that adds
fascination and interest to life.
In the days that remain of our project, one
could easily have a sense of sadness at the ending
of seven wonderful months. Of course, there is an
aspect of this emotion that one can sense. Even
so, I can remain tranquil in the knowledge that I
have gained something, something intangible. I
have absorbed and assimilated so much, learned so
much. The pilgrims, and also my companions on
this project, have left an imprint, a metaphorical
footprint, through conversations and shared
experiences.
