Magazine’s
top tips for
the Nordic
countries
From sightseeing boat trips and underground
adventures in cobalt mines to festival fun,
art exhibitions and adventures in space, here’s
our guide to help you make the most of your
time in Norway, Sweden and Finland
A taste of Italy
OSLO, NORWAY
An authentic Italian trattoria in the
heart of Oslo, Amundsen & Nobile
is a bustling but cosy eatery. The
tables are adorned in red and white
checked cloths, old bottles of Chianti
are used as candle holders and loud,
helpful Italian waiting stuff buzz
around. The constantly changing
evening menu features classic Italian
dishes based on locally sourced,
seasonal ingredients. At lunchtime,
the restaurant has a smaller menu
but all dishes are reasonably priced,
so there’s no need to blow your
budget. Amundsen & Nobile is open
12pm-11pm, Monday - Sunday.
OSLO, NORWAY
While sightseeing buses offer a
great opportunity to soak up Oslo’s
key landmarks, why not push the
boat out (quite literally) and join
one of Batservice Sightseeing’s
classic boat cruises around Oslo.
Choices include a hop on, hop off
mini-cruise aboard a wooden sailing
ship, which takes you to the City
Hall, Opera House and museum
Going underground
BLAAFARVEVAERKET, NORWAY
Approximately a one-hour drive from
Oslo, you will find Blaafarvevaerket,
a former cobalt mine and factory
– back in the 1800s it was one of
the largest manufacturers of cobalt.
Nowadays it is one of Norway’s
most visited attractions and visitors
can explore the mine as part of
a guided tour. It’s also home to a
museum, glassworks, art exhibitions,
peninsula. Or there’s the classic
Oslo Fjord sightseeing tour; jazz and
blues cruises; a summer evening
cruise (including a buffet supper); or
the impressive 7.5 hour Grand Tour,
taking in all the key sights in the city
and surrounding environs.
