Feld, Jindrich
Trio
for oboe (flute), clarinet
and bassoon (1987)
Edited by Veroslav Nemec
Jindrich Feld (1925-2007), one of
the outstanding Czech composers
of the 20th century, studied composition
and musicology at the Aca -
demy of Music and the Charles
University in Prague and taught at
the Prague Conservatoire as professor
of composition from 1972-
86. After the democratization of
the Czech Republic, he took part
in many music associations and
committees and since 1992 was
the director of the music department
of the Czech Radio for a few
years. His comprehensive oeuvre
comprises above all orchestral
and chamber music works. The
Wind Trio from 1987, now published
for the first time, ideally
combines the eagerness to experiment
with the classical form, giving
the players rewarding, sometimes
rhythmically subtle and
playful virtuoso tasks. Suited for
concerts and competitions.
The movements: Allegro assai –
Adagio – Scherzino –
Finale (Allegro vivace).
Glanert, Detlev
Déjà vu
for wind quintet
Like his 'Fünf Chansons' for the
same instrumentation, Detlev
Glanert's second wind quintet
captivates the audience by the
brilliant use of the instrumental
colours and forms of expression.
The one-movement work is characterized
by a dense motivic texture
from which, time and again,
individual instruments erupt
briefly in a soloistic manner to
eventually align themselves with
the overall homogeneous sound.
Duddell, Joe
Snowblind
for percussion and strings (2001)
One of three works Duddell has
written for percussionist Colin
Currie, ‘Snowblind’ highlights the
melodic possibilities when writing
for percussion. Throughout its
three movements, Duddell takes
the performers through a modern
day Baroque sound-world with
both the use of ritornello sections
and focussing on unity between
the accompaniment and soloist.
‘Snowblind’ will stretch post
Grade-8 students and is ideal for
an exam or audition situation.
piano reduction with
solo parts
Grade: difficult to very difficult
