How You Like Them The Pink Lady 12 A look at some of the best tasting apples in Orange County. Saddleback College Magazine A P P L E S M ost people believe apples tastes the same and that eating one apple is just like eating another. If you had one, then you’ve had them all. I used to think I didn’t like wine until I met a wine connoisseur, who had a wine cellar in his home. Interestingly enough, I had been drinking White Zinfandel, which is a less expensive wine. I didn’t know about other vineyards so I based my decision on the White Zin experience. After testing other flavors, I found that I really enjoyed wine. Most people view apples the same. They eat them because they’re healthy and we need the fiber while some eat them because they’re a sweet treat. Whatever the reason, you’ll want to read on to find out th results of my quest to find the best tasting apples, with a star rating from1 to 5. Some apples really stand out amongst the rest and not all apples are the same. Don’t just take my word for it, pick up this small sampling and you be the judge. It normally looks like the color pink mixed between the colors red and green. This apple is sweet with a true flavor. ThE honEy CriSP APPLE – 5 STArS Usually a larger size apple and it’s a crispy, sweet, crunchy, juicy apple. ThE JAzz APPLE – 4 STArS It resembles its name and has a variety of flavorful notes. Tastes like it was kissed by the sun and danced with the rain. It has a hint of orange or lime; something that gives it a zesty flavor. Mostly red with a few undertones of green in it. It is juicy and originated in New Zealand. The Red Delicious
ThE FuJi APPLE – 4 STArS The color is a consistent red and is sweet and crunchy. I would describe its flavor as excitable to the pallet. It’s juicy and leaves behind a nice flavor. ThE GrAnny SMiTh APPLE – 3 STArS This apple of course is the healthiest apple you can eat, because it’s less sweet than most apples. It’s green with a sweet and sour taste. ThE GALA APPLE – 3 STArS This is a red apple with green freckles and is sweet with a hint of the tangerine like flavor. ThE rEd dELiCiouS APPLE – 2 STArS Almost burgundy in color. Very sweet, the core is juicy but the skin is dry. Its flavor doesn’t linger on the pallet but disappears almost instantaneously. ThE GoLdEn dELiCiouS APPLE – 2 STArS Resembling the Granny Smith Apple, the Golden Delicious has more yellow. It’s sweet and tart in flavor, but nothing stands out. ThE BrAEBurn APPLE – 1 STAr It looks like its name—like it was almost sunburned in the sun and is red with hints of green and brown; dull in color. This apple is boring and doesn’t bring anything to the pallet. With more than 7,500 types of apples around the world, we have a lot to choose from.
