is tans baie bedrywig in die
gemeenskap waar hulle hul leuse
van ‘Ons gee om’ voluit uitleef.
Die jeugleiers het onlangs jeugpasiënte
by die psigiatriese saal van
Weskoppies, asook van die kankersaal
by Tshwane Distrikshospitaal
besoek. Hulle het ook ’n draai ge-
maak by die Phyllis Robertson Tehuis
vir liggaamlik- en verstandelikgestremdes,
asook by die Armstrong
Berning Traumasentrum. Daarna
het hulle ’n bus vol behoeftige jeugdiges
by die Plaashuis in Centurion
ontvang en soos ‘VIPs’ vir middagete
onthaal.
Jeugleier Willem Landman verduidelik:
“Ons as die Jeug van Suid-
Afrika is trots Suid-Afrikaans in Afrikaans
en ons respekteer en eer al
die taal- en kultuurgroepe in ons
land. Die jeugleiersforum reik uit
na alle jeug in nood, ongeag van ras,
taal, geslag of omstandighede, soos
jeugdiges in die gevangenis, plekke
van veiligheid of traumasentrums.

ATKV Jeugforum gee om
kragting, verwerping en verwaarlosing,
dwelmmisbruik en sata-
nisme. Ons het ook begrip en deernis
met jeug wat liggaamlik en verstandelik
gestremd is, asook die terminaalsieke
jeug soos kankerpasiënte,
onder andere.”
Op 25 Junie het die ATKV
Centurion Jeugleiersforum, as deel
van hulle gemeenskapsaktiwiteite,
die Patmos Jeuggroep vanuit die
Bokkeveld naby Ceres ontvang en
ondersteun gedurende hulle toer
deur Gauteng. Dié groep was met
’n warm ontvangs in Pretoria met
warm komberse as geskenk begroet
en daarna met ’n aangename
aansitete by die Plaashuis in Centurion
trakteer.
Verder was hulle op ’n besigtigingstoer
geneem na die Uniegebou,
Vryheidspark en die Voortrekkermonument.
Dit was dié groep plaasjapies
se eerste besoek aan Gauteng
en hul vervoer is deur hul ouers
se werkgewers, die plaasboere,
moontlik gemaak.
Vir Jeugdagvieringe het die
Jeugleiersforum, benewens uitreike
na jeug in nood en ’n jeugkonsert,
ook ondersteuning in lewens- en
handvaardighede ingesluit. Twee
van die jeugleiers het met die groep
gesels oor hulle regte en verantwoordelikhede,
en daarna het interessante
groepsessies plaasgevind
waar hulle entrepreneursvaardighede
kon aanleer.
Die tienermeisies het saam met
Zelmia Reis verskeie praktiese
wenke, soos blommerangskikking
geleer terwyl die tienerseuns druk
besig was met modelbou. Ander het
groente geplant en die kenmerke
en dinamiek van verskeie groentesoorte
leer ken.
Die Jeugleiersforum wil as jeug
volgens godsdienstige norme en
waardes lewe om hul lewens daardeur
te verryk wat tot voordeel van
hulle land kan strek.
Hulle doen ’n beroep op die land
se jeug om ’n gesonde lewensstyl
met integriteit te handhaaf, effektiewe
en sinvolle menseverhoudinge
te beoefen en met ’n positiewe
uitkyk op die toekoms te fokus.

Chaplaincy impacting schools

A new movement that is taking
South Africa by storm recently
held their official launch in Pretoria.
Reach A Generation (RAG) define
themselves as educators who are
much more involved in real life issues
in their learners’ lives. They
are afforded the chance to stand as
chaplains in schools as part of the
National School Chaplaincy Programme
which is also endorsed by
Joyce Meyer Ministries.
“We want to see revival come to
our schools. The Chaplaincy Programme
will take educators countrywide
through different levels of
chaplaincy over the span of four
years. It is a self-study course involving
practical modules where the
chaplain will be required to apply
his study in the school context. RAG
is fortunate to have a number of
crucial resources such as books
and other media material supplied
by Hand Of Hope and Joyce Meyer
Ministries. The programme also
aims to create a platform for educators
to use these resources that they
will make available to effectively
minister to young people’s needs.
The point is to equip educators
without over-burdening them.” said
RAG’s programme manager, Sifiso
Mabena in her opening speech.
“We believe wholeheartedly in
the potential of children and youth,
and that one generation enlightened
and inspired by God can radically
transform a nation. We further believe
in the potential that educators
have to influence this upcoming
generation. Therefore, we want to
do what we can to provide a framework
and support for those educators
to be equipped and encouraged
to nurture the holistic development
of a child physically, mentally,
emotionally, socially and spiritually,”
said Brad Senekal, the African
Outreach director of Hand of Hope
and Joyce Meyer Ministries during
his speech.
Brad continued: “We have the
privilege of travelling around the
world to find and support initiatives
that will transform individuals,
communities and societies with
God’s love. We believe that the
National School Chaplaincy Programme
has every potential to become
a model initiative to serve the
efforts of school systems, governments,
families and the church.”
RAG believes that this is not just
a job for all South African educa-
tors, but rather a calling where all
educators nationwide can now pour
their hearts into their lessons and
shape the future of our children by
fostering Christian values and relationships.
As the learners drive their own
projects and activities, the educator
will mentor them, thus empowering
young people to act for the good of
the community and simultaneously
inculcating desirable values into
their lives.
Dr Sam Ndola, dean of students
at BTC South Africa, applauded the
Chaplaincy Programme’s mission
in his speech: “There will be a
massive difference between a child
intentionally prepared for life and
one who is not. In my view, the
preparation for life is a communal
or corporate task. The Bible teaches
parents to be tasked with training a
child in the way he should go, so that
when he is old, he will not depart
from it.” Dr Ndola continued by
noting that in order for the African
child to be the champion product
who would spearhead transformation
of this continent, it could only
take one generation to reverse all
our ills.
With predictions that 70% of our
population in Africa will be under
the age of 21 by 2020, Dr Ndola
added that “tomorrow belongs to
those who prepare for it today”.
His concluding remarks were: “May
the Lord raise chaplains who will
inspire the next generation of Africans
who will help transform this
continent for the causes of Christ.”

Holy days to stay?

The commission for the promotion
and protection of the rights of
cultural, religious and linguistic
communities are conducting hearings
in all provinces into whether
Christian public holidays in South
Africa ‘unfairly discriminate against
holidays of other religions.’
Christian Action Network (CAN)
is concerned that two of the most
important Christian public holidays
may be removed as a result of four
complaints.
There are two Christian holidays
out of a total of fourteen, with the
other twelve being secular celebrations.
CAN believes that a referendum
would be the most democratic
way to canvass public sentiment on
this issue of public holidays.
The term holiday is a contraction
of ‘holy day’, and most holidays
have religious significance.
The events that a society chooses
to centre its holidays around, speak
volumes about their religious worldview
and value systems.

The seasons of life
“To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under
heaven”. (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
Indeed there is time for everything.
There is a season for everything.
Everything happens for a
reason. We need to understand and
embrace the seasons of our lives. We
need to read the times and redeem
the time.
Just as in nature, in our lives we
have different seasons. This is illustrated
in Ecclesiastes 3:2-8. There is
a, “time to be born, and a time to die.
A time to plant, and a time to pluck
what is planted. A time to kill, and a
time to heal. A time to break down,
and a time to build up. A time to weep,
and a time to laugh. A time to mourn,
and a time to dance. A time to cast
away stones, and a time to gather
stones. A time to embrace, and a time
to refrain from embracing. A time to
gain, and a time to lose. A time to
keep, and a time to throw away. A
time to tear, and a time to sew. A time
to keep silence, and a time to speak.

a time for joy and another chance. It

not work out yesterday may work

When you are going through
a difficult time in your life, know
that it is only for a season and that
it will surely come to pass. One day
the children that you are raising
alone will be adults. One day all your
bills will be paid, and one day God
will restore your life. One day, God
will bless you with a faithful and
godly spouse. You will not be alone
and God will bring you someone to
share your life with.
All your prayers are heard and
God has already answered. If not
now, His answer is not yet. God will,
in His time make all things beautiful.
His time is the best time. We may not
understand why it is not happening
now, but in hindsight it will make
sense. When that happens, you will
be happy that it did not happen then.
Leave the timing in the hands of
our capable God. He is more than
able. Keep the faith, and wait on
God. Embrace your season.

In Verwondering bring hoop terug
Rudolf Rautenbach se lewe het
Maandag 21 Mei skielik verander.
Soos enige ander werksdag was
hy vroeg wakker en teen half-sewe in
Sandton by die werk. Dinge het begin
skeefdraai toe Rudolf teen nege-uur
die grootste hoofpyn van sy lewe kry.
Met twee hoofpynpille het hy
deurgedruk tot elf-uur daardie dag.
Toe Rudolf sy spraak teen twaalf-
uur verloor het, het hy geweet iets
groots is fout. Hy kon darem steeds
praat en sinne vorm in sy gedagtes,
maar het gesukkel om dit uit te spreek
– veral in Engels.
Later die dag bestuur hy huis toe
ten spyte van die hoofpyn en spraak
probleem, terwyl sy vrou met die
dokter ’n afspraak vir hom reël.
By die hospitaal het hulle ’n reeks
toetse gedoen, en die CT-skandering
het ’n swelsel van sowat een sesde

calling to give everything to glorify
His name, and saw an opportunity
to do just that by participating in
this year’s Ironman challenge. PG
Whelan learnt that the Christian Revival
Church in Pretoria is building
a 6000 seat auditorium, and to do
his part in this project, he decided
to raise funds through sponsorships
as Ironman participant.
“What a day. It was the hardest,
longest day of my life!” recounts PG
of his Ironman experience. “When
we arrived at the starting point it
was raining and freezing cold. My
poor wife was so wet, I felt so sorry
for her. Just as I wanted to leave she
called me back and she prayed for us.
She just knew that we are going to
need the extra strength for this day.”
The first part of the Ironman challenge
was the 3.8 kilometre swim.
“The first loop was okay, but it was
the second loop when the currents
got tough. I swam around the se-
cond buoy for about ten minutes, the
buoy just stayed in the same place

rondom haar opgeslurp was in ’n

everywhere,” remembers PG.
The 180 kilometre cycle race
came next and PG recalls the wind
being so strong that it was blowing
people off their bikes. 160 Kilometres
into the race he got a flat tyre,
and while crouched next to his bike
fixing his tube, another participant
accidentally collided with PG, hitting
him behind the ear. The medics
gave him the choice to continue with
the race, or forfeit.
“I told them that I’m okay, I
thanked them and told them they
can go. When everybody left I started
crying due to the pain and tiredness
that simply overwhelmed me. I got
onto my bike and pedalled on for
about one kilometre and again I got
a flat tube.”
PG dismounted and realised that

Rudolf se operasie sou ses ure

side. “So that was it, I can’t go any
further. I’m finished.” All he had
left to do was to wait for someone
to pick him up and take him home.
After three months of training and
sacrifices, his efforts seemed to have
been in vain.
While he waited, PG asked God:

die operasie weer volkome praat.
Rudolf en sy vrou staan in verwondering
oor God se genade, en
gee Hom al die eer.
Ironman contestant’s calling for Christ
“Is this really it? I can’t give up on
my church and my family who has
been praying for me for so long.”
He heard God answer him that no
matter what, quitting is not an option.
PG was perplexed. What can he do?
He’s allowed to carry a spare tube
with him, but not a tyre.
After a 30 minute wait, a maintenance
vehicle came past and PG
explained his situation to them.
They said it shouldn’t be a problem
as they have a spare tyre with them.
He was overjoyed and fitted the new
tyre and tube and was off again. PG
made the cycle leg with only ten
minutes remaining.
The final leg of the challenge
was the 42 kilometre run. PG started
the run not feeling well, sore, tired
and still suffering from a headache.
He remained focussed on the race
through pouring rain, strong winds
and with very limited visibility.
Seven kilometres into the run he
was soaking wet and he still had 35
kilometres left. “I just told myself
to keep on keeping on… And I did.”
“Thank you Jesus” was his first
words at the finish line. His second
words were “Let’s go home please.”
PG likens our lives to a big Ironman
race. There are storms and tribulations.
Sometimes it gets so hard
that we can’t even see ahead of us.
But that is when we must dig deep,
and realise the amazing opportunity
to see what we really are capable of.
“It is your choice if you are going
to be victorious or a victim. The best
part is that God is there with you
every step of the way. You cannot fail.
It’s so sad to see so many people give
up just before their breakthrough,”
says PG. “Life will be filled with
tribulations and the devil comes to
kill and destroy. But Jesus came so
that we may have life in abundance.
Therefore if God is for you, who can
be against you? Nothing and no one.
I thank God every day for the family
and friends He placed into my life. I
couldn’t do it without them.”

Sukses in
Botswana
Marlene Vos, ’n inwoner van
Botswana en Annette Herbst, die
stigter van Leef Jou Droom kampe,
het ’n spesiale visie van die Here
ontvang om Washing Feet Ministry
te stig. Hulle was gewys hoe daar ’n
bedieningsbehoefte in Afrika is om
vrouens van Hom te leer.
In Mahalapy en sentraal Botswana
is daar reeds menigde kerke,
maar die gevoel was dat daar steeds
’n leemte is en dat die mense nog nie
die nodige deurbrake en bedieningstoerusting
gekry het nie.
Vroue in Botswana sloof hulself
af om brood op die tafel te kry en
hulle is geestelik, sowel as ligaamlik
gedaan. Die behoefte was daar om
hulle die geleentheid te gun om hulself
vir die Here te gee en toegerus te
word hoe om ander weer te bedien.
Annette en Marlene het saam op
die Here vertrou vir ’n geleentheid
om Washing Feet Ministry vrouekampe
in Mahalapye, Botwana, te
begin en die eerste kamp het by die
Kanamo Centre plaasgevind met
fasiliteite en slaapplek vir 69 persone.
Hulle eerste groot uitdaging
was egter die finansies vir die kamp.
Die koste per persoon vir slaapplek
alleen het 180 Pula beloop, met etes,
die saal en kombuis se gebruik uitgesluit.
Meeste vrouens in Botswana
het eenvoudig nie die nodige fondse
om te kan betaal nie. Dus was hulle
gevra om te betaal wat hulle kon.
Annette en Marlene getuig dat
dit inspirerend was om te sien hoe
die vrouens alles in hulle vermoë
gedoen het om fondse bymekaar te
maak, al was dit net vir P10 of P50.
Hulle het egter nooit God se vermoë
om te voorsien onderskat nie, en het
steeds voortgegaan met die reëlings
vir die kamp.
Mense van oral oor die land het
gehoor van die kamp en begin bydra.
Selfs ’n ongelowige persoon het
geld en blouwildebeeste geskenk.
Dié vleis was toe verkoop om sodoende
verdere fondse te genereer.
Boere van omliggende plase het ook
vars produkte geskenk vir die kamp.
“Wat ’n groot getuienis van God
se genade en grootheid as jy in Sy
wil beweeg!” het Annette gesê.
Baie vroue het die Here aangeneem
en hulle laat doop by die kamp,
en het huistoe gegaan en elkeen hul
liggies in hulle gemeenskappe laat
skyn. Daar het selfs pastore geskakel
van ander kerke om uit te vind
wat op die kamp gebeur het, want
die vroue het so radikaal verander
en begin om almal in die kerk aan
te vuur. Tydens die tweede kamp het
vroue wat vir jare in ander gelowe
vasgevang was, hulle harte vir die
Here gegee en hulle ook laat doop.
Menigte deurbrake en getuienisse
het begin instroom.
“Ons kan reeds sien watter groot
verandering daar in die gemeenskap

To Russia with love
Eight years ago South African
couple Gertjan and Judy Pelleboer
found themselves with a challenging
decision to make. God instructed
them to leave their home, family
and careers behind and go full-time
into a drug rehabilitation ministry in
Russia. Due to visa requirements,
Gertjan and Judy now alternate
living between Russia and South
Africa every three months.
Ministering to Russia’s drug
addicts and homeless has left the
Pelleboer couple with many humbling
stories of inspiration and hope
and most of the people who come to
the rehabilitation centre will open a
bible there for the first time in their
lives.
Dima is a young boy with an
early drug addiction history and is
already in the Russian prison sys-
tem, possibly with an extended sentence
increasing his current year and
seven months to three years or even
more. Thanks to the Pelleboer’s efforts,
Dima has people who pray for
his safety, regular contact through
letters from the ministry and receives
funds for toiletries and sometimes a
little extra for sweets, tea and biscuits.
If they are allowed, the Pelleboers
hope to visit him again when
they get back to Russia.
An ex-tramp, Sasha tells of the
challenging circumstances that the
homeless in Russia has to cope with.
After he had been in rehabilitation
for a year, he was scared to enter the
real world again. A rival beggar will
kill you for a piece of cardboard, a
bottle, or simply for being on his turf.
Sasha now ministers to addicts
and shares his testimony of how
God’s word strengthened and sustained
him in his time of need. “I
always tell them that I want the word
of God to become your ‘narkotika’
(drug)” says Sasha.
A dear friend of the Pelleboers
shared the Gospel with Sasha fifteen
years ago, who is now happily married
to a Christian lady and together
they feed beggars at the same bus
station where he used to hang out.
Sasha also runs the Outside World
Adaptation Centre for addicts when
they have completed their rehabilitation
process.
The Pelleboers request that we
all pray that God will show Himself
to the lost hearts in Russia and
that the Holy Spirit will strengthen
those who have placed their hearts
in Jesus’ hands.

Mauritius vir Jesus
Wanneer die mooi see en strande

bestaan uit Suid-Afrikaners,
eks-Katolieke en Anglikane sowel
as voormalige Hindu gelowiges inheems
aan die eiland. Die kerk het
reeds aansoek gedoen by die plaaslike
regering vir werk- en verblyfpermitte
sodat ’n permanente leraar
geakkomodeer kan word by die
gemeente. Intussen bedien verskeie
leraars op ’n aflosbasis by die gemeente.
Die Pretorius egpaar bedien die
afgelope drie jaar by verskeie gemeentes
in Suid Afrika, veral oor
die werking van die Heilige Gees
