Blind Ironman will compete again
“It is the most amazing feeling to
have hundreds of spectators cheering
you on by name. There is just
no way you can give up.” These are
the words of totally blind Francois
Jacobs, after his first Ironman SA
event.
Francois Jacobs, is the first blind
athlete to complete all three events at
Ironman South Africa (3.8km swim
in the sea, 180km cycle and 42km
run) in 2008, agreed to do the Ironman
contest again, but this year he
will do it to the SA National Council
for the Blind’s (SANCB) benefit.
The Spec Savers Ironman SA will
take place on 22 April 2012 in PE.
Francois Jacobs (41), is an en-
thusiastic, totally blind athlete with
many successful Argus cycle tours
behind his name as well as a Comrades’
Marathon and four Ironman
events. This year he will compete
with the assistance of Kevin Willemse
who also assis-ted him in 2011.
Francois comple-ted his first Ironman
event in less than 14 hours, three
hours before the cut-off time.
Since then Francois has trained a
lot more and is receiving professional
training to better his swimming
techniques. Francois and Kevin are
also training on open water swimming
at the well-known Base 3 Leisure
Lakes and they participated in
four sections of the Midmar Mile
Angus Buchan’s
Ordinary People
A South African film Based on True Events
This Easter, South African
movie goers are in for a treat. From
the direction of F C Hamman
comes a film that is sure to touch
lives across the nation. Although the
title suggests, this is not a follow
up to ‘Faith Like Potatoes’. ‘Angus
Buchan’s Ordinary People’ follows
three story lines that are skillfully
interwoven and culminate at the
‘2010 Mighty Men Conference’ on
Shalom Farm.
Andre Cloete (Jaco Muller) is
a young man trapped in a cycle of
alcohol abuse and is hurt by a broken
relationship with his dogmatic
father, James (Norman Anstey).
We then meet John Peters (Anton
Dekker) who is driving down a
road to destruction. His panel beating
business is severely straining his
health, relationships and finances.
Lastly, there is Lucky Nzimande
(Lucky Koza). When Lucky unsuccessfully
attempts to hi-jack Herman
Visser (Robin Smith), he is in
for a surprise. The ex-special forces
policeman takes Lucky for a ride
that will change his life forever.
The film includes footage of
Angus as a young man (played by
Anrich Herbst) and scenes of Angus
preaching at the Mighty Men Conferences.
One of the most captivating
aspects of the film is its original
score by South African musical veteran,
Mauritz Lotz. Simeon Hamman
also contributes through two
event on 11 and 12 February 2012
as well. They also run or cycle every
weekend in events to train for the
different Ironman events. We are
hopeful that they will do very well,
as they hope to qualify for the Ironman
World Championships in Hawaii
in October 2012.
Francois is no newcomer to success.
He is a popular and well-loved
man who works as a Business Analyst
at a large company where he has
won many awards for outstanding
performance in his work. He has
participated in national blind cricket
tournaments and many tandem cycle
races. He is also a seasoned Ballroom
and Latin American dancer
original songs called ‘I’m Forgiven’
and ‘There Must Be More’.
The film deals with relationship
problems, crime, race and a whole
list of things that South African’s
are faced with everyday. Perhaps the
strongest message that comes across
is that God really can use absolutely
anyone, regardless of social status
or rank.
It is encouraging to see faithbased
films fast becoming part of
the South African film circuit. Angus
Buchan’s Ordinary People will
be in Cinema’s nationwide from 5
April 2012.

Voor die einde van die jaar sal al
die amptelike tale van Suid-Afrika
oor ’n volledige Bybel beskik. Die
vertalers van die Bybel in isiNdebele,
het die volledige Bybelvertaling
gefinaliseer en die manuskrip
aan die Bybelgenootskap van Suid-
Afrika oorhandig. IsiNdebele is tans
die enigste amptelike taal waarin
daar nie ’n Bybel beskikbaar is nie.
Die behoefte aan ’n Bybel in
hierdie taal is reeds jare gelede
geïdentifiseer en die Bybelgenootskap
is genader om met so ’n vertaling
te begin.
Die Markus-evangelie, die eerste
Bybelboek ooit in isiNdebele, is
in 1977 gepubliseer. In 1986 verskyn
die Nuwe Testament en ’n keur
uit die Psalms. Hierna het die werk
tot stilstand gekom en eers 11 jaar
gelede, in 2000 is daar met die vertaling
van die Ou Testament en ’n
grondige hersiening van die Nuwe
Testament begin.
Drie vertalers, past David Mahlangu,
eerw Peter Mabena en prof
Andries Breytenbach, die brontaalkenner
en projekleier, het voltyds
aan hierdie taak gewerk. Hulle
is verder bygestaan deur ’n hersieningskomitee
wat gereeld vergader
het om die teks wat die vertalers
voorberei het na te gaan en verdere
aanbevelings te maak. “Bybelvertaling
is ’n lang, tydrowende
proses, maar dit is so belangrik, en
dit was dan ook al die tyd ons doel

om uiteindelik ’n teks getrou aan
die brontekste van die Bybel, maar
in suiwer isiNdebele, in die hande
van die mense te plaas,” vertel prof
Breytenbach.
Met die oorhandiging van die
finale teks, het ’n span by die Bybelgenootskap
onmiddellik begin
met die voorpublikasie-werk wat
onder andere bladuitleg, proeflees
en die druk van die teks insluit.
Hierdie proses sal ongeveer nege
maande neem en daar word hard
gewerk om voor Kersfees 2012 vir
Ndebelesprekers die Bybel in hulle
moedertaal beskikbaar te stel.

I would like to greet you like Paul did when he wrote
to the Philippians: “ Grace to you and peace from God
our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” He then carries on
in verse 5 ...for your fellowship in the gospel…” Thank you
for your fellowship through sharing this newspaper with us in partnership,
prayers and contributing help, it is the Koinonia of bringing about unity by
the Holy Spirit with readers, advertisers, distributors and agents, wherever
this paper gets. Verse 6 “…that He who has begun a good work in you will
complete it until the day of Christ” I was often at a place or situation in life
where I was wondering what kind of work (jobs) were they doing, when
this letter was addressed to the Philippians. Because surely in the physical
as well as in moral sense this “good work” must produce benefits!
“...that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the
day of Christ” Sometimes, just sometimes you wonder about this work
that I am doing? Just as He is doing a good work in and through us, we are
to do the same physically and spiritually.
Then I read in Zech 4: 9 that Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of
the temple and that his hands would also finish it. So the “work” that God
has destined for him, he shall complete. This has confirmed to me that it
doesn’t matter what kind of work (job) you are doing, when you put your
wholehearted trust in God, He will enable anyone to complete the work to
which He has called them. He accomplishes his purposes through mere
vessels of clay, let us then be encouraged even in difficult financial times
like this, He will sustain us to the point where He sees the completion.
Furthermore let us then “build” ourselves and others spiritually, with the
guidance of the Holy Spirit so that we will be at the point of completion at
the day of Christ through the finished work of the cross.

ATKV musikant se saag is stil

Oom Snaar Coetzee, kleurryke
en jarelange mees senior ATKV
Centurionmusikant is onlangs op
86-jarige ouderdom oorlede.
Met ’n saag wat hy in 1946 by ’n
hardewarewinkel in Pretoria gekoop
het was hy heelwaarskynlik een van
die min musikante in Suid-Afrika
wat nog op so ’n hoë ouderdom tot
en met sy dood voltyds musikant
was met so ’n unieke en uitsonderlike
musiekinstrument.
Oom Saag, soos hy ook bekend
was, het as lid van ATKV Centurion
se Musiekforum o.a. by ’n Algemene
Jaarvergadering van die ATKV
opgetree.
Hy was ook lid van die Musiekforumspan
wat ’n program van
Afrikaanse tradisionele danse, sang
en musiek by die Voortrekkermonument
en by die SABC-verhoog
tydens ’n vorige KKNK aangebied
het. Hy was deel van die musiekspan
wat by verskeie skole, kerke, skoue
en feeste opgetree het.
Hy het ook deelgeneem aan ’n
tradisionele opname van “Sarie
Marais” met o. a. sy saagspel en ’n
konsertina-, trekklavier-, traporrel-
en kitaarspeler waarmee die publiek
aangemoedig is om aan ATKV se
unieke Afrikaanse Sokkerliriekkompetisie
op die maat van “Sarie
Marais” deel te neem. Dit was met
die oog op die Wêreldbeker toe
Suid-Afrika die gasheer was. “Viva
Bafana Viva” is vandag nog steeds
die enigste Afrikaanse Sokkerliedjie
ooit.
Oom Snaar het ook aan omgeeprojekte
deelgeneem en het saam
met ander musikante “Die Kalfiewals“
wat ook op die Cd “Ons eer
ons Senior Burgers” opgeneem is,
gespeel.
Oom Snaar was ook sy lewe lank
entrepreneur en boekbinder van beroep
tot en met sy dood. ’n Beroep
wat net soos die saag as musiekinstrument
besig is om uit te sterf.

Coetzee as ’n nederige, talentvolle
mens beskou wat die kultuur- en
skeppingsopdrag van God ten volle
uitgeleef het. “As boekbinder en
musikant was dit sy passie om voluit
te lewe en God met al sy talente te
prys en te dien. Hy was ’n geemens
en nie ’n ontvangmens nie. Hy laat

The Creation Ministry in South

developments in and through
their ministry on their farm near

The second Creation-Flood-
Babel model-of-origins Conference
has been set for Saturday, 4 August
2012. Churches or groups may book
mid-week meetings. No costs are
involved and three speakers will
attend to the requests. The dates
available are 30 July and 1, 2 and
3 August. The Baptist Theological
College will host the speakers on 30
July. This is seen as a blessing as
students can be encouraged to take
the Word seriously in all aspects.
A prayer garden where people
can come in for some quiet time has
been established by Anika Bokma.
Often game can be seen from there.
A cottage for visiting speakers is
also in the building process. Keith
Hutchinson is hoping to get a CD
going so that funds can be raised for
developments on the farm.

Dr. Bokma has received an
invitation from the Creation Museum
in the USA to attend training in
creation ministry in April, this could
a wonderful opportunity before the
next conference.
The Creation Minsitry is an
endeavour run by the Bokma
family who is funding it from their
own income. They are praising
the Lord for the progress that was
made so far. In order to raise funds
it would be appreciated should a
few people be able to take part in
a NPO. Seven unrelated people are
needed as office-bearers. Interested

Fasting - the forgotten discipline - (Part 1)
What is Fasting?

Many Christians are really unfamiliar
with the term, “fasting”.
They don’t really know what fasting
means or entails. The simplest
definition for fasting is: “Fasting
means a voluntarily abstain from
all forms of nourishment, in both
solid and liquid form, taking in
only pure water, for the express
purpose of promoting, enhancing,
enriching and deepening a
relationship with God, as well as
employing the fast for the purposes
of healing and wellness.”
If you are healthy and well
when you fast, your health will
be greatly strengthened and fortified
by the application of the fast.
The fast would serve to enhance,
fortify and maintain the state of
wellness. This is referred to as a

From a Hindu to a Christian

Myan Subrayan
On Tuesday 14 February at the
Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg,
Unashamedly Ethical hosted a
Gala night. The main speakers
where Angus Buchan, Helen Zille,
Brand Pretorius, Graham Power
and Manne van die Woord’s Myan
Subrayan, who wrote Pierre Spies’
recent book, More than Rugby.
Myan inspired the audience by
sharing a bit of his testimony
on becoming a Christian from a
Hindu.
Myan related that it was only
until 1994 the same year that
South Africa became a democracy
did he receive spiritual freedom
when he asked Jesus into his
heart. As a Hindu he had to practice
many rituals and prayers in
order to receive redemption for
sins. One particular prayer required
the sacrifice of chickens,
by severing the necks. Their
necks were then placed before
the idols and their blood offered
as atonement for sins.
This did not sit well with him
and he began to question his mum
as to why they did this. He could
prophylactic fast.
If you are ill when you commence
a fast, the fast would serve
as the means whereby you may
obtain your healing. This is referred
to as a therapeutic fast, the
fast being the therapy employed
to obtain the desired outcome,
namely, your healing.
The Greek word which is
translated “fast” in the Bible, is
the word “nesteu”, pronounced,
nestevoo. The Hebrew word being
“tsum” or “tsom”. The Hebrew
word “tsum” or “tsom” literally
means “to cover the mouth”, i.e. to
fast. Furthermore, it also means to
uphold a silence, a special silence,
a holy silence. Both the Hebrew
and Greek words for fasting mean
to voluntarily abstain from eating,
that is, from taking in nourishment
in solid or liquid form,
not accept that a loving, kind God
could ask that these animals suffer
so much just so that He could take
pleasure in their death. His mum
responded and said that she did
these prayers because her mum
had always done it. So he asked
his granny why she did these
prayers, to which she replied that
it was because her mother had
also done it. Myan’s great granny
was not alive so he had to stop the
questioning at his grandmother.
His dad’s brother however was
a Christian and Myan decided to
ask him how come Christians did
not sacrifice animals when the Old
Testament Jews did. His uncle
opened up the Bible and read John
3:16: “For God so loved the world
that He gave His Only Son Jesus
Christ that whosoever believes in
Him should not perish but have
eternal life.”
He explained that the reason
why Christians did not sacrifice
was because God had provided
for us the ultimate sacrifice, His
only Son Jesus Christ. The blood
and the life that Jesus gave were
sufficient for our forgiveness and
atonement of our sins. He further

taking in only pure water. Water
is not food, it is not nourishing,
and water is not stimulating. Pure
water contains no nutrients, no
vitamins, no essential minerals
and no calories.
Furthermore, fasting is the
desperate cry of the spirit, soul
and body, including every cell of
your being for the intervention of
the living God on your behalf for
whatever need you are seeking
the Lord for. There should be such
a desperate hunger for the living
God, His presence and His intervention
in the situation that it totally
eclipses the desire for food.
Why should we fast?
Fasting may be employed for
its spiritual benefits and, or its
physical benefits. The fast also
profoundly affects the mental and
emotional realm, quite beyond
belief or expectation. It’s quite
incredible to experience how by
partaking of food, or fasting, it
can so profoundly affect one’s en-

form of sacrifice. Jesus was and
is God’s only provision for a
sacrifice for us.

him a “Good News” version
of the Bible and asked him

Bible came alive and began
speaking to his heart. “I was
so taken aback that all that was
required for me to do was to accept
tire being, spirit, soul and body.
The ancient Greek philosophers
employed the fast as a means of
obtaining clarity of thought, and
it certainly is effective.
For the Christian though, fasting
should be employed primarily
for its spiritual benefit and secondarily
for the physical healing
and wellbeing aspects. Fasting
is never employed as means to
manipulate God, or as a means to
getting your own way with God.
God’s will is completely revealed
in His Word.
By fasting with your prayers
you’re indicating to God how
desperate you are for Him. God
responds to the correct motives of
the heart.
Isaiah 58 especially, and many
other scriptures in the Bible treat
these two aspects of fasting, the
spiritual and physical benefits, in
great depth.

It is common in Hinduism for
people to say that all religions
lead to the one God. Myan says
that it’s an illogical statement to
make because all religions teach
different things, so how can they
lead to one God?

Your mother language
...worth dying for?

The right to use their mother language
freely is an important matter
for most people who share our planet
with us. Whenever a persons’
language is threatened or marginalised,
you can epect strong emotions
to be stirred up, and possibly bloodshed
where it is outlawed by authorities.
Was this not the case, we would
in all probability not have celebrated
International Mother Language
Day.
The United Nations declared
21 February, International Mother
Language Day “to promote the
preservation and protection of all
languages used by peoples of the
world”. On this day, Far East Broadcasting
(FEB Radio International)
celebrates the privilege and responsibility
of broadcasting the Gospel
of Jesus Christ to the ends of the
earth in more than 130 languages!
Where did this internationally
recognised day find it origin?
International Mother Language
Day has been observed every year
since February 2000 to promote
linguistic and cultural diversity and
multilingualism. The date represents
the day in 1952 when students
demonstrating for recognition of
their language, Bangla, as one of
the two national languages of the
then Pakistan, were shot and killed
by police in Dhaka, the capital of
what is now Bangladesh.
At the partition of India in 1947,
the Bengali province was divided
according to the predominant religions
of the inhabitants. The western
part became part of India and
the eastern part became a province
of Pakistan known as East Bengal
and later East Pakistan. However,
economic, cultural and lingual friction
between East and West Pakistan
simmered towards a meltdown.
These tensions were apparent in
1948 when the Pakistani government
declared Urdu to be the sole
national language. This sparked
protests amongst the Bengali-speaking
majority in East Pakistan. The
government outlawed the protests
but on 21 February 1952, students
at the University of Dhaka and other
activists organised a protest. Later
that day, police opened fire on the
demonstrators and killed four students.
These students’ deaths in fighting
for the right to use their mother
language is commemorated on International
Mother Language Day.
What else resulted from their
deaths? The unrest continued however,
as Bengali speakers campaigned
for the right to use their
mother language. Bengali became
an official language in Pakistan on
29 February 1956. Following the
Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971,
Bangladesh became an independent
country with Bengali as its official
language.
Languages is a very powerful
instrument in the preservation and
development of heritage and belief.
We plan, dream and worship in our
mother tongues. For this very reason
it is rather critical to proclaim the
Gospel in someone’s mother tongue,
where possible, as FEB has been doing
since 1946.

die jeug wil bereik en terselfdertyd
van Jesus leer.

toekoms van hierdie bordspel asook
om die impak daarvan op jongmense
te sien. Hy sou baie graag wou
sien dat die speletjie in verskeie ander

Dinamiese dames
gee uitkoms
Dessie se gesin is een van
talle gesinne waarmee Dynamic
Women for Children (DWFC) die
afgelope twee jaar ’n besonderse
pad geloop het. Dié betrokke gesin
is sedert September 2010 diep beproef
, nadat Dessie se man, weens
’n besering by die werk, vir sewe
maande in die hospitaal beland het,
verskeie operasies ondergaan het
en ten spyte daarvan een van sy
bene verloor het.
Dessie was ’n tuisbly-ma met
’n seuntjie van drie. Ná die ongeluk
was daar geen inkomste.
Noodgedwonge moes hulle besittings
verkoop om te oorleef.
Hulle beland toe op ’n plot by,
’n informele nedersetting vir behoeftige
blankes, in Kameeldrift.
Dessie moes gehospitaliseer
word as gevolg van longontsteking
en na twee dae stel hulle vas
dat sy swanger is met hul tweede
kind. Intussen ondergaan haar
man steeds die een na die ander
operasie om sy been te probeer
red. Dessie word weens komplikasies
met die swangerskap weer
in die hospitaal opgeneem en word
eers na 27 dae ontslaan.
Op agt maande swanger, met
’n woelige seuntjie en geen ondersteuningsnetwerk
versorg Dessie
haar siek man tuis. Sy gesondheid
verbeter stadig, maar nie
voldoende dat hy kan werk nie.
Hulle oorleef met karige kosdonasies
van familie.
Twee weke na die geboorte van
hul dogtertjie is hulle met breinvliesontsteking
weer terug in die
hospitaal. Dessie se man word
intussen weer geopereer.
Op ’n dag klop iemand aan hul
deur en daarmee begin ’n splinternuwe
toekoms vir hulle. Oor
die volgende paar maande het sy
die waarde van ’n ware vriendin
ontdek en besef dat daar wel
mense is wat omgee vir ander in
nood. Te danke aan ruimhartige
skenkings en donasies van mense
uit die gemeenskap, kon Marleen
van Dynamic Women for Children
vir Dessie help met alles wat
nodig was vir die baba.
Na sewe maande kon Dessie se
man weer begin werk, maar a.g.v.
agterstallige huurgeld en skuld
sukkel hulle om kop bo water te
hou. DWFC help steeds met kos,
klere en bababenodigdhede en na
’n jaar se gesukkel kon Dessie en
haar gesin weer in ’n 3-slaapkamer
woonstel intrek. DWFC help met
meubels, gordyne en breekware
en vir die eerste keer in ’n baie
lang tyd het Dessie ’n huis waarop
sy trots kan wees.
In Januarie 2012 het DWFC
gehelp om die seuntjie in Gr R te
plaas. Die skoolgelde, vervoer,
skoolklere en alle skoolbenodighede
word betaal.
Marleen, Besturende Direkteur
van DWFC, lê byna daagliks
besoek af by Plot 177 waar 20 mindergegoede
gesinne woon. DWFC
help waar moontlik met kos ens.
Sonder die gemeenskap se donasies,
skenkings en bydraes sou
dit onmoontlik wees om hierdie
mense te help. Tans samel DWFC
fondse in vir die oprigting van ’n
privaatkoshuis vir kinders in die
gemeenskap.

Die finale beplanningsfase van
Relay For Life 2012 wat sal plaasvind
op 23 en 24 Maart oorkant
Laerskool Rustenburg se hoofingang
is op dreef.
Relay For Life is ’n prettige,
deurnag spanbyeenkoms wat die bewusmaking
van kanker na vore bring
en die noosaaklike fondse genereer
om kanker te bestry. Gedurende
die Relay onderneem spanne van
10-15 vriende, bure, families en
mede-werkers om ten minste een lid
te alle tye rondom die baan te laat
loop, want kanker slaap nooit nie.
Spanne wat wil deelneem verbind
hulself tot die sukses van die Relay
deur ’n registrasiefooi te betaal.
Daarna word spanne aangemoedig
om fondse in te samel ten bate van
KANSA se unieke geintegreerde
diens aan mense wat deur kanker
geraak word, en wat gelewer word
in die streek waar die Relay gehou
word. As ’n leier in kankerbeheer
word die wetenskaplike bevindings
en kennis wat deur ons kankernavorsing
opgedoen word, aangewend
om ons gesondheidsprogram te rig
en ons waghondfunksie op te skerp
tot groter voordeel van die publiek.

Die Woord van
die kruis
•

Want die woord van die kruis is
wel dwaasheid vir die wat verlore
gaan, maar vir ons wat gered word,
is dit die krag van God; 1Kor.1:18:
Maar ons verkondig Christus
wat gekruisig is, ’n struikelblok
vir die Jode en dwaasheid vir die
Grieke; 1Kor.1:23
Om toe te laat dat die waarhede
in hierdie artikel u denke gaan verander
of bevestig, en u lewenswyse
en geloof waar nodig daarvolgens
aan te pas, sal dit egter nodig wees
dat u wél in die waarheid en egtheid
van die Bybel sal glo. Daarom
hierdie inleidende paragraaf wat
kortliks handel oor die waarheid van
die Bybel.
Daar is vandag sóveel argumente
om mense in die waarheid van die
Bybel te laat twyfel. As gelowige sal
u in hierdie dae waarin ons leef moet
besluit wat u verwysingsraamwerk
is waarin u glo. Ons lewe in ’n tyd
waarin elkeen van ons dit eens en
vir altyd sal moet uitmaak of die
Bybel waar is of nie. U sal dit in u
hart moet uitmaak dat die Bybel die
waarheid is – ’n waarheid waaraan u
alle uitsprake sal toets; ’n waarheid
waarvoor u bereid is om u lewe te
gee soos duisende gelowiges deur
die eeue heen
dit moes doen
op brandstapels,
in sakke gestop
en verdrink te
word, om in warm teer gedoop te
word en as brandfakkel te dien by
die goddeloses se partytjies. Ja, dít
is die prys wat talle gelowiges vir
die waarheid van Jesus se Godheid
betaal het. Sommige slimgeleerdes
is besig om met drogredes, soos die
Bybel dit noem, opregbedoelde en
eerlike gelowiges te verlei om die
leuen te glo. Die leuen dat Jesus
Christus nie uit ’n maagd gebore is
nie; dat Hy nie opgestaan het uit die
dood nie; dat Hy nie die Seun van
God is nie, ens. Indien u dit nie in u
hart uitgemaak het dat die Bybel die
waarheid is en u bereid is om hierdie
waarheid met u lewe te verdedig nie,
sal u wees soos “kinders wat soos
golwe geslinger en heen en weer gedryf
word deur elke wind van lering,
deur die bedrieëry van die mense,
deur sluheid om listiglik tot dwaling
te bring;”. Ef.4:14
Indien dit nie waar is dat Jesus
Christus opgestaan het uit die dood
nie, is alles oor die kruis tevergeefs!
Vir baie mense is die kruisdood
van Jesus slegs ’n hartseer verhaal.

Tydens die amptelike opening seremonie
voltooi kankeroorwinnaars
’n ere rondte om die baan. Na sononder

stryd teen kanker verloor het en hulle
ook te onthou, asook om hulle
wat teen kanker stry te ondersteun
en saam bly te wees met diegene wat
die stryd oorwin het.
Gedurende die aand en die volgende
oggend geniet almal die vermaak,
pret en kameraderie in ’n karnaval-atmosfeer.
Elke gemeenskap
Daar het in der waarheid talle vóór
en ná Hom aan kruise gesterf. Vir
ander is die kruis slegs ’n stukkie
mooi juweliersware. Vir Paulus is
die woord van die kruis egter die kern
van sy prediking: “want ek het my
voorgeneem om niks anders onder
julle te weet nie as Jesus Christus,
en Hom as gekruisigde”. 1Kor.2:2
Al was dit ’n struikelblok vir die Jode
en dwaasheid vir die Grieke, was dit
vir Paulus die krag van God. Dit
is nie net die feit dat Jesus Christus
’n kruisdood gesterf het wat só
belangrik is nie. Dit is die gevolge
van daardie kruisdood wat uiters
belangrik is vir ons vandag. Die
ingryping van God in die lewe van
’n verdoemende mensdom en die
onsigbare gebeure aan die kruis het
die geskiedenis en lotsbestemming
van die mensdom vir altyd verander.
Wanneer ons dit verstaan, verander
ons begrip van baie dinge in die Bybel.
Trouens, vanaf die kruisdood
van Jesus het alles verander.
Die gevolge van die kruis.
Deur die kruisdood van Jesus
het God met die sonde afgereken:
(2Kor.5:21 N/V). Het daar versoening
gekom tussen God en die mense.
(2Kor.5:19). Is die vloek (straf) van
die wet verwyder (Gal.3:13,14).
Het die heidene deel gekry aan die
seën van Abraham. (Gal.3:13). Het
Hy afgereken met die bose magte.
(Kol.2:14). Het daar genesing gekom
vir die liggaam. (1Pet.2:24).
Het ons vrye toegang tot die Vader
(Hebr.10:19-20)
Het daar vrede tussen God
en die mens gekom (Kol.1:20;
se Relay For Life is spesiaal en is
deel van ’n nasionale- en internasionale
beweging in die stryd teen
kanker.
Spanne word aangemoedig om
voor 5 Maart te registreer. Skoolspanne
word ook verwelkom en
Rom.5:8). Het Hy die duiwel tot
niet gemaak(Hebr.2:14)
Is die twee groepe, Jode en heidene
tot een nuwe mensheid verenig
(Ef.2:16).
In Ef.2 behandel Paulus in ’n hele
gedeelte die feit dat, as gevolg
van die kruis, daar nou net een
groep mense in die oë van God op
die aarde bestaan wie vir Hom ’n
heilige tempel en ’n woning van God
in die Gees is.
“Christus is ons vrede, Hy wat
dié twee, Jode en nie-Jode, een gemaak
het. Deur Sy liggaam te gee,
het Hy die vyandskap afgebreek
wat vroeër soos ’n muur skeiding
gemaak het. Die wet van Moses met
al sy bepalings het Hy opgehef, en
deur vrede te maak, het Hy in Homself
díe twee, Jode en nie-Jode, tot
een nuwe mensheid verenig. Deur
Sy dood aan die kruis het Hy ’n einde
gemaak aan die vyandskap en dié
twee met God versoen en tot een liggaam
verenig. Deur Hom het ons
almal, Jode en nie-Jode deur die een
Gees vrye toegang tot die Vader”.
Ef.2:14-18.
Dit is as gevolg van hierdie gebeurtenis
aan die kruis dat Paulus
in 2Kor.5:16,17 verklaar dat ons
niemand meer na die vlees ken nie
en dat hy wat in Christus is, ’n nuwe
skepsel is. Ook in Gal 3:28: Daar is
nie meer Jood of Griek nie, daar is
nie meer slaaf of vryman nie, daar is
nie meer man en vrou nie; want julle
is almal een in Christus Jesus.

Passie in
Aksie
Vanjaar kan u in Rustenburg

sien: “Passie in Aksie”.
Die evangelie volgens Markus,
’n Jood wat in Jerusalem gebore
is en vroeg al tot die Christendom
bekeer was, kom sterk na
vore. Markus het aan die Christene
wat swaarkry geken het,
geskryf en het deur die evangelie
hulle moed ingepraat. Tye het
nie veel verander nie. Alles is net
meer modern en swaarkry bestaan
steeds.
Hierdie vier-dae-lange produksie
vind plaas gedurende Mei
maand in die Rustenburg Ouditorium.
Ongeveer 140 akteurs,
dansers, sangers asook klanktegnici,
persone wat help met dekor,
klere- en kostuum-ontwerpers,
grimeer-kunstenaars en talle ander
is deel van die produksie.

Oberammerqau is hierdie ’n gesamentlike
projek van die hele
gemeenskap van Rustenburg en
het ten doel om die evangelie op
’n unieke en spesiale wyse aan
duisende te verkondig.

MMC in die Bosveld
• Dia van Staden
“Mighty Men In die Bosveld
2012” word D.V. vanjaar vir die
tweede keer in Limpopo op die
plaas, Snymansdrift, aangebied.
Die “Mighty Men”-byeenkoms
het in 2010 vir die laaste keer in sy
oorspronklike formaat in KwaZulu
Natal op die plaas, Shalom, plaasgevind.
Angus Buchan, het verlede
jaar die uitnodiging aan manne gerig
om die boodskap van hoop na
alle hoeke van Suid-Afrika te neem.
Francois Brits en sy komitee het die
daad by die woord gevoeg en so het
MMC in die Bosveld sy oorsprong
in Limpopo gekry.
Mans uit verskillende kulturele
agtergronde, ras en taal staan getrou
elke jaar ’n paar dae af om saam te
bid en hulself voor die Here te verootmoedig.
Snymansdrift het baie
plek vir kampeerders en daar word
met trots teruggekyk op 2011 se aanbieding
toe baie komplimente vir die
fasiliteite op die plaas uitgedeel is.
Die doel van die “Mighty Men”
In die Bosveld- byeenkoms is om
mans die geleentheid te bied om hul
lewens sodanig te verander dat hulle
in ’n dieper verhouding met God
tree. Die organiseerders is van
mening dat die verandering geestelik
en fisies moet manifesteer om
gemeenskappe positief te beïnvloed
wanneer hul manlike leiers hul
geestelike eienskappe versterk deur
dit te LEEF.
Die byeenkoms vind D.V. vanaf
9 tot 11 Maart 2012 op die plaas,
Snymansdrift, net 18 km buite
Polokwane, op die Mokopane-pad,
plaas. Angus Buchan sal self as een
van die hoofsprekers by die geleentheid

material blessings God can give you.
It is when you are face down and
your spirit touches His Spirit. Only
then will you know the source of all
power.
No matter how the winds might
blow and the storms rage in your
life. By God’s strength you will rise
above it and you will be like a tree
planted by the water that will yield
fruit on the right time as your roots
go down deep in the soil of His
love. As you yield to God’s will,
joy and peace will flood your soul
that no one will be able to take away
from you.

Helen vier 100 jaar
Op 8 Februarie kon Helen Irvine
’n eeu se lewensjare vier. Sy is in
1912 as Helen Giles in George gebore
en het daar opgegroei.
Sy is op 23 April 1940 met John
Irvin getroud en die gesin het lank
in Oudtshoorn gebly. Helen het
twee seuns, drie kleinkinders en een
agterkleinkind.
In Junie 1986 het Helen na Murray
Huis verhuis waar sy een van
die eerste inwoners was. Sy word
na die bystandshuis Kilpin geskuif
op 4 Julie 2007 en na Lyttelton Versorgingsentrum
in Augustus 2010.

onthou steeds hoe aktief Helen in
Rose still active at 80
Rose Lindsey Noakes recently
celebrated her 80th birthday with
family and friends. Rose was born
in 1932 in Cullinan near Pretoria
as Rose Klesser. She grew up in
Johannesburg and after school she
started to work at Standard Bank
in Pretoria and later as secretary in
Vereeniging and Johannesburg.
In 1951 she got married to Harold
and they had two sons and a daughter.
Rose also has a stepdaughter. After
Harold retired they moved to Port
Shepstone where Harold died at the
age of 80 in 1997.
Rose then moved to George to
be closer to her son. Her other two
children are living overseas. In 2006
she moved to the RLR Retirement
Centre. At the age of 80 Rose is still

Mavericks
defeated in court
In answer to prayer, on 3 February
High Court Judge Siraj Desai,
dismissed, with costs, an urgent
application by Mavericks to stop
the Department of Home Affairs
terminating its corporate permits.
This means Mavericks may no
longer apply for corporate work
permits or “employ” foreign women.
In December last year, several
anti-trafficking organisations,
including Christian Action and
concerned Christians demonstrated
and prayed outside the Mavericks
strip-joint in Cape Town.

Like most other so-called strip
clubs, it is suspected that Mavericks
traffics foreign women
into South Africa, mostly from
Eastern Europe, for the purposes
of sexual exploitation, under the
guise of “exotic dancers”. The
women are usually deceptively
recruited and once in South Africa,
their passports are removed,
effectively trapping them in the
country. Not being able to speak
English, black mailed and with no
job skills, they are forced into a
life of sexual slavery.
In his ruling, Judge Desai
agreed with Home Affairs that
Mavericks had violated the regulations
of the Immigration Act,
and failed to adhere to the conditions
specified on the authorisation
certificate for the workers.
A Home Affairs report to the
court said Mavericks regarded its
corporate workers as independent
contractors, rather than employees.
The dancers were required to
pay R2 000 a week to “dance”.
This was viewed as a violation
of the authorisation certificate,
which requires an employment
contract.
This is no doubt why women
exploited by Mavericks are expected
to resort to prostitution in
order to pay this fee. They are also
often expected to pay back their
flight costs.
Judge Desai also dismissed
Mavericks’ claim that it would
“go broke” if the permits were
cancelled. “If regard is given
to its income statement, it appears
that there is no merit to
this submission.”
Significantly, the Western
Cape High Court ordered the Human
Rights Commission to probe
their inhumane employment conditions.
In the final section of
judgment, Judge Desai said there
was some concern about the living
conditions and arrangement of
these so-called “exotic dancers”,
which could constitute human trafficking.
“Have nothing to do with the
fruitless deeds of darkness, but
rather expose them.” Eph. 5:11.

The Karoo’s heartland will for a
second time be transformed into a
place of experiencing and proclaiming
God’s glory during the Karoo
Mighty Men Conference 2012
(KMMC 2012), which is set to take
place from 27 April to 29 April on
the outskirts of Middelburg in the
Eastern Cape at Rusoord Farm.
Jannie Moolman, event co-ordinator,
says men attending the
KMMC 2012 will once more have
the opportunity of being mentored
by evangelist Angus Buchan, who
has become synonymous with the
Mighty Men events.
He says Angus’ message of
stepping out in faith and practically
living the messages of the Bible,
like doing God’s will, forgiving
others, loving your family, and loving
our neighbours is extremely
powerful.“It is a message of faith,
hope and love.”
Moolman maintains that a special
aspect of last year’s KMMC was
the manner in which Angus brought
Christians from so many different
places and of so many different ra-
ces, languages, churches and de-

event has been extremely positive.

with 150 men from the Port Alfred,
Grahamstown, Kenton, and the Alexandra
region, wrote to us about
the awesome privilege of attending,
of being on his knees in the cold of
a Karoo night, looking up at the
mountain and stars in thanksgiving
to the Lord; Henry van Breda who
attended the event with his 13-yearold
son told of the marked deepening
in the boy’s relationship with the
Lord; and Dr Leon Nell from Port
Alfred, one of the doctors on standby
at the event, not only experienced

MIA2012, Moving Into Action
is a large scale volunteer and
missions mobilization conference
with outreaches, to be hosted at
Fountains Valley in Pretoria from
25 - 27 June 2012. Hundreds of
volunteer teams consisting of 10
members each will depart from the
conference to identified Entities of
Change (EoC’s) across Southern
Africa as far as the equator.
The MIA2012 mobilization
initiative aims to draw together
like-minded people, churches
and organisations from across
Southern Africa who realize that
there has been enough mere talk of
“Africa’s time to shine”, and that
it is now time to physically and
prophetically “move into action”.
“The emphasis of MIA2012 is
about encouraging this generation
of Africans to take responsibility
for Africa,” said Adriaan Adams,
who is part of the leadership team.
“MIA2012 is not a substitute for
the outreaches and development
initiatives of churches and organisations,
but a unifying platform
for any individual, church
or organisation that wants to align
their current missions initiatives
to the MIA2012 conference and
process next year,” said Adams.
“If people are already going on
an outreach over that time in June
next year, we would love them to
join the conference and depart to
their destinations from there. The
conference is an opportunity for
the Body of Christ to get the bigger
personal transformation himself, but
witnessed people ranging from drug
addicts to assassins being delivered
and saved,” says Moolman.
Retief Burger and Joe Niemand,
who prepared the ground for the
word to fall into responsive hearts
at last year’s event will again lead
the praise and worship team.
According to Niemand, the revelation
of God through worship
is a very important component of
Mighty Men Conferences as people
get a chance to respond to the
Lord who brings comfort and unity
through the music.
“The praise and worship is the
voice of a crowd of individual believers
combining their voices with
people they don’t even know, which
stirs unity, and when the Lord starts
moving in that, lives change.”
Visitors to KMMC 2012 will
be glad to know that another aspect
that has not changed from last year
is the venue.

an 80 day trip across Africa,
where they facilitated information

organising committee has learned
much from the first event and a
greater sense of unity has developed
among men who attended last
year’s event and will be returning
this year.
“There have been many breakfasts
and get-togethers of men that
intend coming to KMMC 2012 in
towns and cities as far afield as
Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth.
Like last year’s event, KMMC
2012 aims to change men’s lives, by
these countries have indicated
their willingness to host teams
over that period.
Over the 3-day conference
in June, the outreach teams
will receive ministry and skills
training in various critical areas.
They will then work with the
identified EoC in the nation that
they are going to.
MIA2012 has the support of
many church leaders, individuals
and organisations such as Jericho
Walls, Life Christian Foundation,
Operation Mobilisation, World
Missions Centre, Watoto, Adven-
tures for Christ, WEA-MC,
WENSA, Focus Team Leadership
Training, FEBA Radio,

had an opportunity to introduce
MIA2012 at the global consultation
of the Missions Commis-
