International Furniture and Design Exhibition
in Milan - Internazionale del Mobile

On April 22-27 2009 Milan hosted the most important
event in the sphere of furniture production and interior design
- exhibition I Saloni Milano. Apparently, the lack of economic
stability did not have any influence on the creative
potential of designers and furniture manufacturers; in any
case, international sale-exhibition was organized with its usual
luxury and splendor.
2723 exhibitors (including 911 non-Italian companies) featured
their recent achievements at I Saloni and SaloneSatellite.
In the framework of I Saloni program, Salone Internazionale
del Mobile hosted the following events:
- International Furnishing Accessories’ Exhibition;
- Exhibition of young designers SaloneSatellite, representing
a final stage of an open competition;
- Biennial exposition Euroluce, dedicated to the design
of light fixtures.
The main exhibition was accompanied by many other
interesting actions, arranged in galleries, salons and open
plazas around the city. The most notable of these was exhibition
in Palazzo Reale titled “Magnificence and Project” and
dedicated to the five-century history of Italian decorative art
and design. The exhibition offered interesting parallels
between the classical Italian furniture of the past centuries
and the modern Italian design trends.
From among the designs represented at I Saloni, we
would like to specially mention the 10-Unit System, furniture
consisting of L-shape modules, “the Cloud” - new sofa
design by Tokujina Yoshioka, feminine designs by Studion
Front, Fergana designs recalling Uzbek motives, inedible but
pretty Sushi - Moroso Vegetal collection of universal chairs
with organic structures; “Mine and Yours” - new designs by
Frank Gehry and many others.
Internazionale del Mobile exhibitions are organized by
Cosmit company, leadership of which was recently passed
to Carlo Guglielmi. Mr. Guglielmi attributed considerable importance
to I Saloni as a highly efficient medium capable to
uniting manufacturers of interior decoration articles, designers,
architects and clients.
