<strong>Enfield</strong> Shaker Museum<br />

…preserving the <strong>Enfield</strong> Shaker legacy<br />

Year-round, the <strong>Enfield</strong> Shaker Museum <strong>of</strong>fers <strong>Enfield</strong> residents<br />

programs and services which uphold the Museum’s mission to protect, enhance<br />

and utilize the historic structures, landscape and Shaker heritage. We deepen our<br />

connections to the <strong>Enfield</strong> Community through education about the site’s history,<br />

hands-on participation and supporting activities that foster improved quality <strong>of</strong><br />

life.<br />

In <strong>2010</strong>, nine new educational programs included the Shaker Quest<br />

Summer Camp for children and our Community Garden, a USDA National<br />

Organic Program, to benefit local families. We installed new exhibits in the Great<br />

Stone Dwelling, Laundry/Dairy and the Stone Mill. The Laundry/Dairy exhibit<br />

resulted as part <strong>of</strong> a national conference on culinary history, focusing on the<br />

Shakers’ dairy industry. Trustee and <strong>Enfield</strong> resident Wendell Smith designed an<br />

exhibit for the Stone Mill to interpret the Shakers’ dependence on waterpower<br />

and how it can benefit us today.<br />

As a community partner, we hosted a reception for the Lower Shaker<br />

Village Community Association. Attendees shared their ideas about our<br />

programs. I was elected to the LSVCA board in <strong>2010</strong>, and I anticipate it will be<br />

another step to help the community. The Museum also collaborated with the
