Support for human services
Canada
n Free The Children: RBC partnered with Free The Children
to support a number of initiatives through donations
and sponsorships including We Day events, the H2O 4 U
Speaking Tour and the We Create Change campaign. RBC
support for We Day in 2012 made it possible for events
to be held right across Canada for the first time. We
Day events are attended by more than 100,000 youth,
to celebrate positive social and environmental action
and encourage more young people to make a difference
in the world. In 2012, RBC also launched an annual
education campaign called We Create Change with Free
The Children to encourage youth engagement. As part
of the first year, youth were empowered to fundraise
for projects that provide clean water access to 100,000
people in developing communities around the world
through a national penny drive.
n Habitat for Humanity Canada: RBC continued to provide
employee volunteers and corporate donations totalling
$544,000 to Habitat for Humanity (HFH) across North
America in 2012. We continue to support HFH Canada’s
National Aboriginal Housing Program, with an end goal
of building 170 energy-efficient, affordable homes for
low-income Aboriginal families.
n Canadian Red Cross: RBC donated more than $340,000
in support of various disasters in 2012, such as the
Goderich Tornado, flooding in Northern Ontario, Hurricane
Sandy, plus program support for initiatives such as
Beyond the Hurt, RespectED, Prepared and Day of Pink.
As a founding partner, we continued our ongoing support
of the Personal Disaster Assistance Program in Canada.
