Our priority arts and culture project RBC Emerging Artists Project — 2012 highlights n One of our main initiatives under the RBC Emerging Artists Project is the RBC Canadian Painting Competition. In partnership with the Canadian Art Foundation, the RBC Canadian Painting Competition provides a forum to engage communities across Canada and celebrate the exceptional skill of up-and-coming visual artists. The RBC Canadian Painting Competition celebrated its 14th year supporting Canadian visual artists early in their career by providing a forum to display their artistic talent and opening doors to future opportunities. n In 2012, we invested $3 million in grants to apprenticeships, internships and artist recognition programs at 141 organizations across Canada. 21 2012 Vibrant Communities Report ARTS & CULTURE We believe in the power of art to enrich our lives and enhance our communities. Canadian Painting Competition 2012 National Winner Vanessa Maltese Balaclava n As a leading patron of the arts and cinema, we are also committed to helping the next generation of filmmakers develop their skills and bring their visions to life through the sponsorship of a variety of festivals and programs: – RBC served as the official bank and sponsor of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), providing clients with exclusive opportunities to attend movie premieres, galas and other special events during the festival. – RBC supported TIFF Talent Lab and the RBC Emerging Filmmakers Competition, an outlet for up-and-coming filmmakers to showcase their talent. – RBC sponsored the New York Film Festival as a diamond sponsor, producing the Emerging Visions Filmmaker Symposium in partnership with the Film Society of Lincoln Center (FCLC) and the Independent Filmmakers Project (IFP) to help support up-andcoming talent progress in their professional careers. We also support a broad range of organizations under the RBC Emerging Artists Project globally, such as: Canada n The National Ballet of Canada: The National Ballet of Canada is among the country’s top performing arts organizations and is the largest classical dance company. RBC donated $100,000 to the RBC Apprentice Programme, which produces graduates that fill the ranks of respected dance companies around the world. n George R. Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, Toronto: The Gardiner has been identified as a centre of excellence for Canadian contemporary ceramics. For the second year, RBC donated $50,000 to the RBC Emerging Artist People’s Choice Award.
