RBC Emerging Artists Project —<br />
2012 highlights<br />
n One of our main initiatives under the RBC Emerging<br />
Artists Project is the RBC Canadian Painting<br />
Competition. In partnership with the Canadian Art<br />
Foundation, the RBC Canadian Painting Competition<br />
provides a forum to engage communities across Canada<br />
and celebrate the exceptional skill of up-and-coming<br />
visual artists. The RBC Canadian Painting Competition<br />
celebrated its 14th year supporting Canadian visual<br />
artists early in their career by providing a forum to<br />
display their artistic talent and opening doors to future<br />
opportunities.<br />
n In 2012, we invested $3 million in grants to<br />
apprenticeships, internships and artist recognition<br />
programs at 141 organizations across Canada.<br />

We believe in the power of art to enrich our lives and enhance our<br />
communities. The RBC Emerging Artists Project consists of sponsorships<br />
and donations to organizations whose programs bridge the gap from<br />
academic excellence to professional careers in all forms of art.<br />

n As a leading patron of the arts and cinema, we are also<br />
committed to helping the next generation of filmmakers<br />
develop their skills and bring their visions to life through<br />
the sponsorship of a variety of festivals and programs:<br />
– RBC served as the official bank and sponsor of the<br />
Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), providing<br />
clients with exclusive opportunities to attend movie<br />
premieres, galas and other special events during<br />
the festival.<br />
– RBC supported TIFF Talent Lab and the RBC<br />
Emerging Filmmakers Competition, an outlet for<br />
up-and-coming filmmakers to showcase their talent.<br />
– RBC sponsored the New York Film Festival as a<br />
diamond sponsor, producing the Emerging Visions<br />
Filmmaker Symposium in partnership with the Film<br />
Society of Lincoln Center (FCLC) and the Independent<br />
Filmmakers Project (IFP) to help support up-andcoming<br />
talent progress in their professional careers.<br />
We also support a broad range of organizations under the<br />
RBC Emerging Artists Project globally, such as:<br />
Canada<br />
n The National Ballet of Canada: The National Ballet<br />
of Canada is among the country’s top performing<br />
arts organizations and is the largest classical dance<br />
company. RBC donated $100,000 to the RBC Apprentice<br />
Programme, which produces graduates that fill the<br />
ranks of respected dance companies around the world.<br />
n George R. Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, Toronto:<br />
The Gardiner has been identified as a centre of<br />
excellence for Canadian contemporary ceramics.<br />
For the second year, RBC donated $50,000 to the<br />
RBC Emerging Artist People’s Choice Award.
