Our priority education project
EDUCATION
RBC believes that investing in education not only helps children, but also
strengthens our families, enriches our communities and builds the intellectual
capital we need to ensure the future health and prosperity of our country.
That’s why we created the RBC After School Project.
A good after school program can give a real boost to the skills and knowledge children gain in a formal classroom,
bridging the gap between schoolwork and homework, and giving children a chance to take part in wide range
of other activities where they can shine and have fun.
Since 1999, RBC has provided more than $27 million in grants to 248 community-based after school programs
in Canada, helping almost 29,000 children. To be selected for a grant, organizations must offer structured
and supervised activities for children between the ages of 6 and 17. The programs must also focus on what
RBC calls the “three Ss” — safety, social skills and self-esteem. The grants are used to provide a wide range
of activities including computer instruction, sports, literacy tutoring, music and art lessons, nutrition guidance
and homework help.
