artst transformed the boardwalk<br />

ino a colorful, seaside Greenwich<br />

Village at the third annual 'Walk<br />

•how, About 1500 works <strong>of</strong> art<br />

were exhibited. The Fourth Annual<br />

Boardwalk Art Show is scheduled<br />

for Saturday, July 23.<br />

Moat ' prominent visitor to the<br />

exhibit • was Al Capp, creator <strong>of</strong><br />

U'l Abner. Capp toured the exhibit<br />

area in an open convertible<br />

after accepting a merit award at<br />

ceremonies in the Flanders Hotel.<br />

The famous cartoonist and thousands<br />

<strong>of</strong> other spectators at the<br />

show were Impressed by the high<br />

quality <strong>of</strong> the work displayed.<br />

Grand prize for. best <strong>of</strong> show was<br />

captured by El kins Park, Pa,, artist,<br />

Laimons Eglitis, for his painting<br />

entitled "Landscape."<br />

<strong>On</strong> hand to film the event were<br />

four staff members from Life<br />

Magazine. "Ufa" took color photographs<br />

at the exhibit to use in a<br />

subsequent issue.<br />

Several improvements were<br />

made in the physical setup <strong>of</strong> the<br />

was a center aisle down the board,<br />

walk which condensed the show<br />

and made thing* leas hectic for<br />

spectators and judges. AU work<br />

was contained between 12th st. and<br />

7th st, with this arrangement.<br />

The show was capped by a dinner<br />

for judges and a Pop Art<br />

Ball at the Convention Hall,<br />

Exhibitors enjoyed fair skies<br />

and almost ideal weather on the<br />

boardwalk'. As James PenUnd, exhibit<br />

director, noted: "We were<br />

sun. lucky. It poured the next<br />

day."<br />

Penland, who has headed the<br />

show for three years, has been<br />

cited on many occasions for buikt<br />

ing the exhibit into the largest<br />

evenl <strong>of</strong> ita kind. He was assisted<br />

by a committee <strong>of</strong> over 90 workers.<br />

The annual Boardwalk Art Exhibit<br />

is sponsored by a group <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Ocean</strong> <strong>City</strong> businessmen with the<br />
