artst transformed the boardwalk
ino a colorful, seaside Greenwich
Village at the third annual 'Walk
•how, About 1500 works of art
were exhibited. The Fourth Annual
Boardwalk Art Show is scheduled
for Saturday, July 23.
Moat ' prominent visitor to the
exhibit • was Al Capp, creator of
U'l Abner. Capp toured the exhibit
area in an open convertible
after accepting a merit award at
ceremonies in the Flanders Hotel.
The famous cartoonist and thousands
of other spectators at the
show were Impressed by the high
quality of the work displayed.
Grand prize for. best of show was
captured by El kins Park, Pa,, artist,
Laimons Eglitis, for his painting
entitled "Landscape."
On hand to film the event were
four staff members from Life
Magazine. "Ufa" took color photographs
at the exhibit to use in a
subsequent issue.
Several improvements were
made in the physical setup of the

walk which condensed the show
and made thing* leas hectic for
spectators and judges. AU work
was contained between 12th st. and
7th st, with this arrangement.
The show was capped by a dinner
for judges and a Pop Art
Ball at the Convention Hall,
Exhibitors enjoyed fair skies
and almost ideal weather on the
boardwalk'. As James PenUnd, exhibit
director, noted: "We were
sun. lucky. It poured the next
day."
Penland, who has headed the
show for three years, has been
cited on many occasions for buikt
ing the exhibit into the largest
evenl of ita kind. He was assisted
by a committee of over 90 workers.
The annual Boardwalk Art Exhibit
