camping trips, and jamborees <strong>of</strong><br />

scouting skills which are conduct.<br />

In its virgin state, before men<br />

settled here this narrow, sandy island<br />

was heavily wooded Irom one<br />

end to the other, according to early<br />

maps and other records.<br />

A map as early as lOB showed<br />

a large grove <strong>of</strong> trees at the north<br />

end <strong>of</strong> the island, then about 4th st,<br />

and the ridge narrowed as it pro.<br />

gressed southward.<br />

Trees that flourished wild here<br />

included red ct-dar, hoUy, willow,<br />

magnooa, sassafras, persimmon.<br />

aty, America's Greatest Family<br />

Resort. Jonsson was included in<br />

the group <strong>of</strong> 90 visitors to this<br />

resort community.<br />
