AFL/CRICKET<br />

Opened in 2009, the<br />

AFL/Cricket Centre at<br />

<strong>Blacktown</strong> <strong>In</strong>ternational<br />

<strong>Sportspark</strong> is home to<br />

both AFL and Cricket in<br />

Western Sydney playing<br />

host to high quality AFL,<br />

Cricket and Community<br />

events.<br />

AFL<br />

<strong>Blacktown</strong> City Council has a<br />

long standing partnership with<br />

the AFL that has seen<br />

<strong>Blacktown</strong> <strong>In</strong>ternational<br />

<strong>Sportspark</strong> host a variety of<br />

<strong>In</strong>ternational, National, State<br />

and Regional AFL events at the<br />

AFL/Cricket Centre together<br />

with events to engage with<br />

the community.<br />

BLACKTOWN INTERNATIONAL SPORTSPARK<br />

The AFL <strong>2011</strong> <strong>In</strong>ternational<br />

Cup came to <strong>Blacktown</strong> City for<br />

the first time in August <strong>2011</strong><br />

with <strong>Blacktown</strong> <strong>In</strong>ternational<br />

<strong>Sportspark</strong> Sydney hosting 19<br />

countries including Papua New<br />

Guinea, New Zealand, South<br />

Africa, Ireland, Nauru, Canada,<br />

USA, Japan, Great Britain,<br />

Denmark, Sweden, Peace Team,<br />

China, <strong>In</strong>dia, Tonga, Fiji, France<br />

and East Timor. <strong>2011</strong> also saw<br />

the introduction of a Women’s<br />

tournament with five countries<br />

competing for the inaugural<br />

title. A Mayoral reception was<br />

held on August 13 officially<br />

welcoming teams to the venue<br />

and to <strong>Blacktown</strong> City. Each<br />

<strong>In</strong>ternational Cup received a<br />

small memento to mark their<br />

time in <strong>Blacktown</strong> City –<br />

a <strong>Blacktown</strong> <strong>In</strong>ternational<br />

<strong>Sportspark</strong> Sydney cap that<br />

they could wear with pride<br />

back on home soil.<br />

History was made in<br />

April when <strong>Blacktown</strong><br />

<strong>In</strong>ternational <strong>Sportspark</strong> hosted<br />

the GWS GIANTS ROUND 3<br />

PREMIERSHIP GAME against<br />

West Coast Eagles on April 15.<br />

The GWS GIANTS were not<br />

strong enough for the more<br />

experienced Eagles going<br />

down by 81 points in front of<br />

an enthusiastic and<br />

encouraging crowd of 6,875.<br />

Round 1 of the <strong>2012</strong> AFL NAB<br />

Cup Competition was held at<br />

<strong>Blacktown</strong> <strong>In</strong>ternational<br />

<strong>Sportspark</strong> on February 18 with<br />

over 7,500 people attending<br />

the triple header between the<br />

GWS GIANTS, Western Bulldogs<br />

and Collingwood Magpies.<br />

A VIP function was hosted by<br />

<strong>Blacktown</strong> Council and the AFL
