Netzer Olami's International Conference - 2011 א" עשת -ר" צנ לש תימלועה הדיעוה Activities: Summer (January) and Winter (July) camps, weekly meetings in states at local synagogues, Lag B'Omer Tiyul, 2 Chinuch seminars per year for Madrichim, Bogrim seminar held by AZYC for all leaders in Zionist Youth movements across Australia. Relationship to adult movement: Federal Merakezet sits on the executive of the UPJ. We are in constant contact with UPJ representatives and also presidents and rabbis from local synagogues. Funding: yearly funding for operations, outreach and Shnat from UPJ. States hold their own fundraising activities to cover local expenses. Key issues \ priorities: structure and content of the Shnat program, relationships with local synagogues to increase weekly meeting attendance, furthering Netzer's involvement in the local progressive community, how to retain Bogrim in the progressive movement after their time in Netzer. 22
Netzer Olami's International Conference - 2011 NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth) א" עשת -ר" צנ לש תימלועה הדיעוה History: Founded in 1939 for college students at the urging of the Women of Reform Judaism, NFTY became a high school youth movement shortly thereafter due to the mandatory military draft that came with the second World War. NFTY will be celebrating its 72 nd birthday in February. National\Regional scope: NFTY is comprised of 19 geographic regions that represent the United States, Canada, and the US Virgin Islands. Who mainly runs the snif: NFTY Director, NFTY Associate Director, NFTY Director of Operations and Regions in partnership with the NFTY President and NFTY North American Board. Regional Boards are supported by NFTY Regional Staff (18 staff members, 4 full time, 14 part time). Decision making: All decisions relative to program and policy are coordinated by youth leaders and are overseen by adult leadership, primarily for liability purposes. Who is available to support the movement: URJ (Union for Reform Judaism), WRJ (Women of Reform Judaism), RAC (Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism). Numbers: 7,000+ active members Age groups: High School (age 14-18, entering grades 9-12) Activities: NFTY regions host over 100 combined regional events during each academic year, which range in length from 3-5 days, and host between 50-350 participants at each event. The North American office coordinates a biennial NFTY Convention, and annually a NFTY Veida (February) and NFTY Mechina (June) for the 141 regional board leaders. Additionally, the NFTY Leadership Experience takes place for four weeks each summer at Kutz: NFTY’s Campus for Reform Jewish Teens in Warwick, NY. Relationship to adult movement: NFTY is THE youth movement of Reform Judaism. The NFTY President serves on the URJ board, and each NFTY Board member participates in one of the commissions of the URJ.
