Netzer Olami's International Conference - 2011 א" עשת -ר" צנ לש תימלועה הדיעוה number of reform children who do not attend Netzer as it is seen as a “not properly Jewish” movement by the school. Netzer thus fights for equal representation in the King David Schools. Other key priorities are focusing on social injustice in South Africa. Lastly, many of our chanachim do not come from Jewish days schools and don’t have a strong Jewish education so we have a major priority to give them a taste of Judaism and a connection to Israel. Netzer-Spain History: Atid (our kehila) started running activities for the youth back in 1995. However, Netzer-Spain was formally founded in 2001, when Victor Sörenssen, right after completing the Shnat program in Israel, became our first Mazkir. At that point, we had around 30 Chanichim and less than 10 Madrichim, but since then, our numbers have been rising constantly. We are proud to say that we are the most experienced Jewish Zionist Tnua (youth movement) in the country. Moreover, we are the only Reform organized youth movement in Spain. National\Regional scope: We run our activities mainly in Barcelona. However, we aspire to become the main reference for Jewish youngsters all around Catalonia and Spain. Who mainly runs the snif: Our Mazkirim are Daniel Sánchez and Estefanía Lipquin. In addition, we are expecting the arrival of a Shaliaj at some point during the present or following academic year. Decision making: A Han'haga (made up of 5 people) meets weekly to make decisions, most logistical. Key issues are decided by the entire Tzevet in a democratic manner. Who is available to support the movement: The Kehila’s directive committee supports us both financially and logistically when we require it to do so. Numbers: We have an average of 55 Chanichim every Saturday in our Peulot. Our Tzevet currently consists of 22 Madrichim, 12 of which work as Kvutzot leaders. In the summer camp, we usually have around 85 people altogether. 34
Netzer Olami's International Conference - 2011 א" עשת -ר" צנ לש תימלועה הדיעוה Age groups: We have 6 Kvutzot running from ages 2 to 16. Our youngest group currently covers ages 2-5. Due to the difficulties of having such a wide range of ages, we are planning to divide that Kvutza into two (ages 2-3 and ages 4-5) whenever we have enough Chanichim to do so. Activities: We organize weekly activities for all Kvutzot. We are also involved in organizing certain festivities (e.g. Purim or Tu Bishvat) and special communal events such as the “Atid (our kehila) Annual Music Fest”. Relationship to adult movement: We have a very close relationship to the adult movement, given that our Snif belongs to a single Kehila. Thus, we carry out many activities together throughout the year. Moreover, we have some financial support coming from the adult section of Atid. Funding: Our Chanichim are required to pay a monthly fee, even though we are very clear about the fact that no child will be excluded from Netzer due to a family’s inability to finance their membership. 90% of our funding comes from those fees while the rest is provided by our community, Atid. Key issues \ priorities: -Sending Madrichim to the Shnat program on a regular basis. -Having more joint projects with the other Sniffim in Western Europe (LJY, RSY, Germany and France) and Netzer Panama. 35
