The implementation of decisions made on Veida Olamit
Netezer's Veida Olamit provides a unique opportunity to meet other Netzerniks from
sniffim around the world. During veida, a special atmosphere is created when we all
come together and realize we're part of a world movement, and a deep motivation is
instilled in veida's representatives that we can run this movement and change things,
improve them, etc..
Over the years, there have been lots of discussions and a number of different and
creative ideas. Some proposals were actual practical ones that were to be pursued
either by individuals or by a small group that volunteered for the task. Unfortunately,
the vast majority of these initiatives never got past the stage of the discussion at veida
and upon people's return to their snif, almost nothing was ever followed up.
Once again, this year, sniffim will be encouraged to write up proposals to be discussed
during assefot. Without wishing to be negative, I nevertheless feel that it might be
helpful in this brief paper to explain what some of the ideas have been in the past and
also to give my personal opinion about why these have not been carried through. My
aim is certainly not to stop the discussion in any way or to suggest that such ideas
can't be done. Rather, my aim is to try and encourage delegates to think about the
reasons why it hasn't happened in the past so that they are better able to try and
avoid some of the same mistakes this year.
1. People get carried away with excitement at the ideas of veida and they agree to
take on things that they do not have enough time for, or they simply forget about what
they agreed to do when they get home.
2. Veida often goes along with big ideas that are attractive but which in reality are too
big and complicated to realistically be organized internationally via email and phone
calls.
3. Delegates don't manage to excite their own sniffim on their return in the same way
that they were excited about it at veida, and so when they go back it falls to the
bottom of theirs and their snif's priorities.
4. The ideas are costly and above Netzer Olami's budget and personnel abilities.
