Spain and Latin America Desk Report:
Written by Yuval Nemirovsky
In General:
The year 2010 was a productive and intensive year. Being in my third year as
coordinator of the desk, I can say that despite our lack of budgeting and
funding, we managed to encourage many activities and participation of our
delegates in all our snifim during the whole year.
We managed to help most of our activities in Latin America using a donation
from the Cohen Family, made 3 years ago, that we used intelligently in order to
help more activities and delegates that we thought in an initial budget plan.
For the next year (2011) we will have to find our own resources in order to
continue with our great activities.
I will explain the main issues that our snifim and the desk dealt with during this
past year.
Barcelona:
As in every year, our Barcelona snif continues to grow and is becoming a model for
others to follow. Not only are they enjoying rising numbers of janijim who are joining
the movement, but also the madrijim course ("anonimim") finished with honors and
are now part of the Tzevet!
During the past year, Barcelona's adult congregation, the Atid community, decided to
move to a bigger and nicer place. Thanks to this change, this new synagogue has
enabled Netzer activities to take place much more comfortably.
Like in every year, Netzer planned 2 camps (majanot), one in the summer and one
during the winter. These majanot are an important part of the janijim's year, they
await the majane during the year, and it is the main topic of conversations for months
after it.
Netzer Olami has recently decided to send help to Netzer Barcelona through a position
of a Shaliaj. We're continuing to work on turning this into a reality and are currently
really close to a final agreement with the Jewish Agency. We expect to have the
position filled from the beginning of 2011, God willing!
Shnat: After many years of trying to build a group from Barcelona, we are proud to
announce that we have this year (2011) 2 Shnatim: Naty and Hanna. When these two
girls return to Spain, they will give new batteries to the snif thanks to the many
leadership skills they will gain throughout their year in Israel. One of the main
challenges for us is to continue bringing shanties from Barcelona every year.
TaMaR-Spain started working thanks to Netzer madrijim that finished their cycle in the
youth movement in order to continue their work in the community as TaMaRnikim.
