enroll students in coordinated offerings. <strong>The</strong> proposal should <strong>be</strong> recommended by the<br />

department chair and the <strong>Faculty</strong> Development Committee’s subcommittee for STEPP<br />

Components to the Dean who will make the final decision. If a faculty mem<strong>be</strong>r and the chair<br />

cannot agree on a proposal, both <strong>may</strong> submit individual proposals and letters of explanation to the<br />

<strong>Faculty</strong> Development Committee’s subcommittee for STEPP Components, who will evaluate the<br />

proposals and make a recommendation to the Dean who will make the final decision.<br />

5. Programs: Choice of this option requires a proposal for developing a new program area<br />

consistent with the <strong>College</strong>’s strategic plan which addresses:<br />

a. the existing resource base and expertise in the <strong>College</strong> relative to the program under<br />

consideration;<br />

b. the resources and expertise needed to further the program under consideration;<br />

c. the level of student interest and career opportunities in the area under consideration; and<br />

d. the program area’s consistency with the <strong>College</strong> and University mission.<br />

<strong>The</strong> proposal should <strong>be</strong> recommended by the department chair and the <strong>Faculty</strong> Development<br />

Committee’s subcommittee for STEPP Components to the Dean who will make the final<br />

decision. If a faculty mem<strong>be</strong>r and the chair cannot agree on a proposal, both <strong>may</strong> submit<br />

individual proposals and letters of explanation to the <strong>Faculty</strong> Development Committee’s<br />

subcommittee for STEPP Components, who will evaluate the proposals and make a<br />

recommendation to the Dean regarding the proposal. <strong>The</strong> Dean will make the final decision.<br />

Selection of this option carries with it the obligation to subsequently provide a report on progress<br />

and results to the department chair, the <strong>Faculty</strong> Development Committee’s subcommittee for<br />

STEPP Components and the Dean. Degree programs and new majors <strong>may</strong> <strong>be</strong> appropriate for<br />

further development and planning to include additional feasibility research, course development,<br />

development of marketing materials, proposals for budgetary approvals, resource acquisitions,<br />

coordination of necessary commitments, etc. Further development of minors, concentrations, and<br />

program area tracks are not appropriate uses of this option.<br />

<strong>The</strong> proposals for the STEPP Component options for extraordinary service, pedagogy, and<br />

programs shall have the following deadlines. <strong>Faculty</strong> mem<strong>be</strong>rs will submit their proposals to<br />

their chairs no later than Octo<strong>be</strong>r 15. <strong>Faculty</strong> proposals and chairs’ recommendations will <strong>be</strong><br />

submitted to the <strong>Faculty</strong> Development Committee’s subcommittee for STEPP Components by<br />

Novem<strong>be</strong>r 1. This subcommittee will submit the proposals with their recommendations to the<br />

Dean no later than Decem<strong>be</strong>r 15. <strong>The</strong> Dean shall notify the faculty mem<strong>be</strong>rs and chairs of his/her<br />

decisions no later than January 31. <strong>The</strong> Dean will place a copy of approved STEPP Component<br />

proposals and a copy of the Dean’s approval notification into the faculty mem<strong>be</strong>r’s Academic<br />

Record file.<br />

<strong>Faculty</strong> mem<strong>be</strong>rs will descri<strong>be</strong> the STEPP Component activities conducted and will present<br />

evidence of completion of STEPP component goals as part of the regular process of review of<br />

faculty performance in completion of the self-evaluation form, the application for promotion and<br />

tenure, and the application for promotion. No new STEPP Component proposals can <strong>be</strong> approved<br />
