Failure of a faculty mem<strong>be</strong>r to meet the above notification requirement shall <strong>be</strong> deemed a waiver of the<br />

right to receive tenure within the time limits specified in Article 16.2. If, in such a case, the University<br />

fails to give adequate written notice that tenure will not <strong>be</strong> granted, that failure will not result in<br />

“automatic tenure,” but rather in an obligation to give a terminal contract or to provide one additional<br />

year's wages.<br />

16.4 Academic Administrators and Tenure<br />

Academic administrators, as defined in Article 9.3.2, who are ranked teaching faculty <strong>may</strong> <strong>be</strong> considered<br />

for advancement to tenure in conformity with the provisions of this Article except as clarified <strong>be</strong>low:<br />

a. <strong>full</strong>-time employees of <strong>Regis</strong> University who hold appointments as academic<br />

administrators and who teach at least one three-credit-hour course or its equivalent in<br />

<strong>Regis</strong> <strong>College</strong> each academic year <strong>may</strong> <strong>be</strong> considered for advancement to tenure. If a<br />

person hired by the University for one of the positions named <strong>be</strong>low is on a tenure track<br />

at his/her immediately prior position at a regionally accredited institution of higher<br />

education, the completed probationary years at that institution <strong>may</strong> <strong>be</strong> counted for tenure<br />

at <strong>Regis</strong> subject to the criteria stated in Article 16.2;<br />

b. an academic administrator with faculty rank will <strong>be</strong> presumed to have met the criteria set<br />

forth in Article 17.2.5 for Service to the University. <strong>The</strong> Committee on Rank and Tenure<br />

will identify a Special Academic Evaluator from the department or program in which<br />

tenure will <strong>be</strong> granted as descri<strong>be</strong>d in 13.1. <strong>The</strong> administrator seeking tenure will submit<br />

an Application for Tenure to the Special Academic Evaluator and follow the procedures<br />

on review and recommendation outlined in section 16.5. If it is the Dean seeking tenure,<br />

the Vice President for Academic Affairs will serve in the role of the Dean delineated in<br />

these sections.<br />

c. when <strong>full</strong>-time employees of <strong>Regis</strong> University who are academic administrators are<br />

advanced to tenure in <strong>Regis</strong> <strong>College</strong>, they will <strong>be</strong> expected to continue to teach in <strong>Regis</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> at least two three-credit hour courses or their equivalent over the course of four<br />

years with the proviso that they shall not go more than four consecutive semesters<br />

without teaching at least one course, as long as they retain their administrative position.<br />

In such cases, they will <strong>be</strong> guaranteed a continuous appointment when they leave their<br />

administrative positions until retirement age unless t<strong>here</strong> is proof of adequate cause (as<br />

defined in Article 14.4), financial exigency (as defined in Article 14.3.2), or changes in<br />

the educational program (as defined in Article 14.3.1);<br />

d. a tenured person who accepts an appointment as an academic administrator will retain<br />

<strong>full</strong> tenure rights in <strong>Regis</strong> <strong>College</strong> so long as s/he continues to teach as specified in “c”<br />

above;<br />

e. a tenured person who accepts a non-academic administrative position will forfeit tenure<br />

rights unless s/he takes a leave of absence (see Article 6), but <strong>may</strong> retain academic rank<br />

as specified in Article 9.3.1;<br />

f. a person who is hired by the University for the position of President, Vice President for<br />

Academic Affairs, or Academic Dean of <strong>Regis</strong> <strong>College</strong>, and who holds tenure in her/his<br />

immediately prior position at a regionally-accredited institution of higher education and<br />
