<strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong> also wishes to maintain equity access across the faculty with service commitments.<br />

<strong>The</strong>refore, a faculty mem<strong>be</strong>r who has extraordinary service commitments should elect the service<br />

option within the STEPP Component of workload. In addition, faculty mem<strong>be</strong>rs should not take<br />

on overly heavy service burdens. This detracts from their ability to teach effectively and to stay<br />

professionally active. Examples of too-heavy service loads include but are not limited to:<br />

a. serving on two committees while also advising 30 or more students;<br />

b. concurrently serving as chair for more than one committee or department;<br />

c. chairing one committee while serving on another (not including subcommittees of the<br />

committee).<br />

Sources of documentation include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:<br />

a. self report of activities and, w<strong>here</strong> it is not self-evident, of time spent;<br />

b. committee or committee chair ratings, or ratings by the supervisor of an activity<br />

(e.g., a report from the Director of Admissions, the Vice President for University<br />

Relations’ staff);<br />

c. rating by Dean of Students office personnel; and<br />

d. supervisor ratings.<br />

<strong>The</strong> levels of performance in this area, in order and for the different ranks, are:<br />

a. for Assistant Professors, proven or presumptive competence;<br />

b. for Associate Professors, noteworthy performance;<br />

c. for teaching or professional track Professors, outstanding performance;<br />

d. for research track Professors or self-designed track Professors, either noteworthy<br />

or outstanding performance.<br />

17.3 Criteria for Promotion of Academic Administrators<br />

Academic administrators as defined in Article 9.3.2 who <strong>be</strong>long to the ranked faculty <strong>may</strong> <strong>be</strong> considered<br />

for promotion in rank in conformity with the provisions above as clarified or altered <strong>be</strong>low:<br />

a. <strong>full</strong>-time employees of <strong>Regis</strong> University who are appointed to an academic administrative<br />

office and who teach one three-credit-hour course or its equivalent per year <strong>may</strong> <strong>be</strong><br />

considered for promotion in rank and will have this time count as <strong>full</strong>-time, ranked<br />

teaching experience in these considerations. However, such <strong>full</strong>-time employees who<br />

teach less than one three-credit-hour course or its equivalent for any one-year period will<br />

not <strong>be</strong> eligible for promotion in rank while teaching less than the above minimums<br />

although they <strong>may</strong> retain their rank under the provisions of Article 9.3.1. Upon<br />
