Dulcimer Festival, February 26-28<br />

The Southern Strings Dulcimer Festival will be held Feb.<br />

26-28 in Hattiesburg. It will feature 2006 National<br />

Mountain Dulcimer Champion Jeff Hames from Madison.<br />

There will be pre-festival activities and jam sessions,<br />

dulcimer classes and sessions. If you play, or would like to<br />

Women’s Conference, February 27-28<br />

Mt. Carmel Church of God, 573 Mt. Carmel Church<br />

speaker will be Rev. Teresa Miley. The conference will<br />

Black History Celebration Dinner,<br />

February 28<br />

The 21st Marion County Black History Celebration<br />

Dinner will be held Saturday, February 28, from 6:30 to 8<br />

p.m. Highlights this year will include fabulous door prizes,<br />

a dance to “At Last”, Marion County tribute song. Tickets<br />

are only a $25.00 donation.<br />

If you have an employee that has worked for over 20<br />

years or is in a management position and is still working,<br />

please let them know as they want to honor them.<br />

A softb<strong>all</strong> tournament will be held at Columbia Water<br />

Park on February 28. The tournament will be limited to the<br />

March 4. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the<br />

park pavilion office.<br />

Mission Trip Fundraiser, March 7<br />

New Hope Baptist Church, 508 New Hope Church Rd.,<br />

Foxworth, will be holding a Silent Cake Auction and<br />

Womanless Pageant Fundraiser to benefit their Peru<br />

Mission Trip on March 7. The Silent Cake Auction will be<br />

at 5 p.m. and the Pageant will be at 6 p.m.<br />

The audience will determine the winner ofthe pageant<br />

based on how much is given for each contestant during the<br />

pageant! Tickets are $2 at the door. Door prizes will be<br />

given. Popcorn and drinks will be sold.<br />

Open House, March 14<br />

The Family History Center will be having an open house<br />

on Saturday, March 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be<br />

displays of 16 generation Pedigree charts, each with old<br />

pictures of the people from the charts. There will be over<br />

500 pictures displayed, <strong>all</strong> from 1800 to 1930’s. Skits of<br />

tales from the past and local histories will also be presented.<br />

Fiddling artist, Bill Rogers and his group will be featured.<br />

Also performing will be Anita Powell and her daughter,<br />

Carrie. Everyone is invited and it is free to <strong>all</strong>.<br />

Fly-In, March 28<br />

The Columbia Airport Pilots Association will host a Fly-<br />

In, Saturday, March 28. It will begin at 9 a.m. and will have<br />

light sports planes on display, a flight school display,<br />

skydiving exhibition, radio-control airplane exhibition,<br />

flour-bomb competition and a medical helicopter display.<br />

Plane rides will be available along with children's activities.<br />

The Woodlawn Youth Choir will provide music and lunch<br />

plates will be available.
