The East Marion Lady<br />

Eagles' successful season<br />

wrapped up Thursday when<br />

Scott Central took a 50-40<br />

win against them in the<br />

South State quarter-finals.<br />

They finished the year with a<br />

27-4 record and won the<br />

District Eight 2A<br />

Championship.<br />

Against Scott Central,<br />

East Marion had some foul<br />

trouble in the first quarter but<br />

the Lady Eagles went into<br />

the dressing room, at the<br />

half, down by only two<br />

points. The final score<br />

triple. The Wildcats t<strong>all</strong>ied 11<br />

hits, as infielder Conner<br />

Ellzey and left fielder Ty<br />

Rand<strong>all</strong> <strong>all</strong> singled.<br />

Ellzey started on the<br />

mound and picked up the<br />

win, pitching three innings<br />

while giving up three hits and<br />

two runs. Simmons tossed<br />

the next three, pitching<br />

hitless and scoreless innings.<br />

Forrest Dungan pitched the<br />

last inning, giving up a hit<br />

and a walk.<br />

On Tuesday, Feb. 17, CHS<br />

defeated Lumberton 11-9, as<br />

the Wildcats had nine hits<br />

and the Panthers had 11 hits.<br />

Lumberton committed seven<br />

errors to Columbia's four.<br />

Ellis took the win,<br />

pitching six innings, giving<br />

up 10 hits, six runs and four<br />

walks. He struck out five.<br />

Montgomery, Stewart and<br />

Brady <strong>all</strong> pitched the last<br />

inning, as Brady ended up<br />

with the save.<br />

Lady Eagles stop at South State<br />

The East Marion boys<br />

finished up their season with<br />

a loss to Hines Agricultural<br />

High School in the first<br />

round of the south state<br />

tournament with an over<strong>all</strong><br />

record of 10-17. The Eagles<br />

went 6-6 in district play<br />

where they finished in fourth<br />

place, compared to sixth<br />

place last year.<br />

Several senior boys will<br />

leave the team. Arian Taylor,<br />

Nick Aikens and Travell<br />

Whiteside will <strong>all</strong> move on<br />

but most of the starters are<br />

returning.<br />

"We expect the boys to<br />

have a better season next<br />

year, too," Brown said.<br />

Choctaw Central snips off<br />

Wildcats’ return to the Big House<br />

season with a 27-5 record,<br />

second place in Region 8-3a<br />

standings and in the<br />

tournament.<br />

Last Thursday, the Lady<br />

Wildcats season ended a<br />

Southeast Lauderdale<br />

downed CHS 82-49. The<br />

Lady Wildcats ended their<br />

season at 21-9 and second<br />

place in Region 8-3A play.<br />

inning tied 1-1, but Columbia<br />

scored two runs in the top of<br />

the inning to take the 3-1<br />

advantage. Richland,<br />

however, scored three runs<br />

on two hits and a walk to win<br />

the game.<br />

Simmons took the loss,<br />

but Ellzey pitched seven<br />

innings, giving up three hits<br />

and one earned run. He<br />

struck out 10.<br />

Columbia hit six singles,<br />

Van Morris and Channing<br />

Henry each singled.
