Kris Welker<br />
Assistant Coach<br />
2nd Season<br />
Kris Welker begins second season as an assistant baseball coach with<br />
the Golden Eagles.<br />
“Kris understands what it means to be a Golden Eagle and brings<br />
enthusiasm, energy and knowledge <strong>of</strong> what it takes to win in the Scenic<br />
West Athletic Conference,” said CSI head coach Boomer Walker.<br />
Welker played at CSI from 2001 to 2003, earning first team all-region<br />
honors in 2003 as a catcher. From CSI, Welker transferred to the<br />
University <strong>of</strong> Iowa where he was named third team all Big Ten and<br />
University <strong>of</strong> Iowa MVP in 2005. The same year, he was drafted by the<br />
Chicago White Sox in the 41st round, earning Bristol White Sox MVP<br />
honors.<br />
He played two years in the White Sox organization before becoming the first base coach for the Clinton<br />
Lumber Kings (Texas Rangers organization) in 2007.<br />
Since 2007, Welker has been a volunteer assistant coach at the University <strong>of</strong> Iowa.<br />
He and his wife Jennifer are enjoying a new addition to the family - Kaden Wade.<br />
“ Kris brings energy and enthusiam to our program. He works extremely hard and the players<br />
respond well to him. He has turned our pitching into our strength.” - Boomer Walker
