ITHACA COLLEGE The 2008-09 team captains: junior Naomi Mark and seniors Cathleen Barnes and Lauren Botterbusch. Swimmer and Diver profiles Becca BLazaK Breast/Free/IM, So.; Sewickley, Pa. 2008-09: Blazak earned her first All-American honor by finishing 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Championships. She was a member of the UNYSCSA and Empire 8 championship team in the 400-yard medley relay, and earned a total of seven all-state and allconference honors. Her times in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke rank as the second-fastest in Ithaca history. Blazak’s 400 IM time of 4:44.13 was the fastest of the season. 2007-08: Blazak was one of the team’s top breaststroke competitors. She was the Empire 8 runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke and placed third at the NYSWCAA Championships. Blazak also earned all-state honors in the 200-yard breaststroke and as part of the 800-yard freestyle relay, finishing eighth in both events. High School: A 2007 graduate of Quaker Valley High School, Blazak was coached by David Long. She earned four letters and served as team captain. Personal: A culture and communications major, she is the daughter of Chris and Anne Blazak. emiLy Britz Fly/IM, So.; Clifton Park 2008-09: Britz turned in the second-fastest time of the season for the Bombers in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing 12th at the UNYSCSA meet in 4:51.91. She also turned in the second-fastest time of the year by an Ithaca swimmer in the 200-yard butterfly at the state meet. 2007-08: Britz was a NYSWCAA qualifier in three events and turned in her best performance in the 200-yard freestyle, placing fourth in the Empire 8 in that event and fifth in the 400 IM (4:57.04) and also qualified in the 200 IM. High School: A 2007 graduate of Shenendehowa High School, Britz was coached by Patricia Seligman. She earned three letters and two sectional titles. Britz also swam with the Schenectady Swim Club for Jerry Adams. Personal: A student in the exploratory program, she is the daughter of John and Michele Britz. ITHACA COLLEGE JoaNNa Ferreri Free, So.; Niskayuna 2008-09: Ferreri earned four All-UNYSCSA finishes and two Empire 8 runner-up finishes at the state and conference championship meet, including a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle event in a time of 53.53 seconds. She was a member of the school-record team in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and she ranks 15th alltime in the 50 free and eighth all-time in the 100 free at Ithaca. 2007-08: Ferreri swam on Ithaca’s 800-yard freestyle relay team that earned all-state honors with an eighth-place finish at the NYSWCAA Championships. She qualified for the state meet in three individual events with a top finish of 15th in the 100-yard freestyle (56.04). Ferreri also competed in the 50 and 200 freestyles and swam on the 200 and 400 freestyle relays at the NYSWCAA meet. High School: A 2007 graduate of Niskayuna High School, Ferreri was coached by Mike Stone. She earned three varsity letters as a member of the swimming & diving team and served as team captain. She also swam at Ridgefield High School her freshman year and was a member of the Albany Starfish Swim Club. Personal: A clinical health studies/ physical therapy major, she is the daughter of John and Renee Ferreri. JeN heBertoN Back/Fly/Free, Jr.; Darien, Conn. 2008-09: Heberton added two All- American honors to her impressive collegiate career in the 200- and 400-yard medley relays at the NCAA Championships. She also earned UNYSCSA and Empire 8 totals in those events as both relays swam school-record times. Individually, Heberton was fourth in the state in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.43 seconds, which is also an Ithaca record. 2007-08: Heberton was a four-time all-American and won five state and Empire 8 championships. She swam on the 200-yard medley relay team that finished eighth at the national meet in a time of 1:48.85. Heberton also earned all-America honors with the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams and 400-yard medley relay team, all of which finished 15th at NCAAs. Individually, Heberton won the NYSWCAA and Empire 8 title in the 50-yard freestyle (24.43) in Ithaca’s third-fastest time ever. She set a school record in the 100-yard butterfly at the state and conference meet, placing second in 58.55. Heberton placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle to earn all-NYSWCAA honors. She was a two-time Empire 8 Athlete of the Week. 2006-07: Heberton ranked third on the team in scoring as a freshman and was a member of the school, conference and conference championship record setting 200-yard medley relay team. She won state and conference titles in the 50-yard freestyle and as a member of the 200- and 400- yard freestyle and 200- and 400-yeard medley relay teams. Each of the relay teams recorded NCAA “B” qualifying times. She was the conference runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke. Heberton’s times in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly rank on the top-10 times list at Ithaca, as do her times as a member of the 200- and 400-yard freestyle and medley relay teams. She was named to the Empire 8 President’s List after the spring semester and received honorable mention to the NSCAA all-academic team. High School: A 2006 graduate of Darien High School, Heberton was coached by Jason Paige as a member if the swimming & diving team. She was also a member of the volleyball team, earning first-team all-conference and first-team all-state honors. Heberton was honored her senior year as the state MVP and was named the 2005 Volleyball Player of the Year by the Hartford Courant. Personal: A clinical health studies/physical therapy major, she is the daughter of Pam and Dick Heberton.
