Free, So; Dryden<br />

2008-09: Rhoades was a three-time All-American and<br />

five-time UNYSCSA and Empire 8 champion in an<br />

excellent sophomore season. Rhoades earned individual<br />

All-American honors in the 100-yard freestyle by finishing<br />

10th at the NCAA Championships. She was a first<br />

team All-American on the 400-yard medley relay team<br />

(sixth place) and honorable mention in the 200 medley<br />

relay (ninth place). Rhoades’ times of 23.73 seconds<br />

in the 50-yard freestyle and 50.84 seconds in the 100 free at the UNYSCSA<br />

and Empire 8 meet were <strong>Ithaca</strong> school records and earned first-place finishes.<br />

Rhoades is also on three school-record holding relay teams. She earned a total<br />

of 14 all-state and all-conference finishes on the year and was Empire 8 Athlete<br />

of the Week for the week ending Oct. 27. 2007-08: Rhoades was named Rookie<br />

of the Meet at the Empire 8 Championships after winning conference titles in<br />

the 100-yard freestyle and with four relay teams. She swam on four all-America<br />

relay teams, including the 200 and 400-yard medley units that set school records<br />

(placing eight and 15th, respectively, at nationals). Rhoades helped <strong>Ithaca</strong> win<br />

NYSWCAA and Empire 8 titles in both medley relays and the 200 and 400-yard<br />

freestyle relays; both those foursomes placed 15th at the NCAA Championships.<br />

She was named Empire 8 Athlete of the Week twice during the season. High<br />

School: A 2007 graduate of Dryden High School, Rhoades was coached by<br />

Vicki Alexander. She was a four-year letter winner as a member of the swimming<br />

& diving team and served as team captain her senior year. Rhoades was<br />

an all-conference performer in each of her four seasons at Dryden and was the<br />

team’s high point scorer as a junior. She was a member of the 200-yard freestyle<br />

relay team that broke the conference record in 2007. Personal: A clinical health<br />

studies/physical therapy major, she is the daughter of Bernie Rhoades. Her father<br />

is the director of network and communication services at <strong>Ithaca</strong>.<br />

amaNDa vituLLo<br />

Back/Fly/Free, Fr.; Schenectady<br />

2008-09: Vitullo earned All-American honors as a<br />

freshman as part of the 200-yard medley relay team<br />

that finished ninth at the NCAA Division III Championships.<br />

That relay also finished first in the UNYSCSA<br />

and Empire 8 championship meet with a school-record<br />

time of 1:45.07, which also set state and conference records<br />

in that meet. Vitullo swam the leadoff, backstroke<br />

leg of that relay, and also finished sixth in the 100-yard<br />

backstroke at the UNYSCSA Championships, earning<br />

all-state distinction. She ranks fourth all-time at <strong>Ithaca</strong> in the 100 back with her<br />

season-best time of 59.01 seconds, which came at state meet. High School: A<br />

2008 graduate of Schalmont High School, Vitullo was coached by Jess Westervelt<br />

and Jerry Adams. She earned six letters, was a scholar-athlete four times<br />

and MVP of both the swimming & diving and track & field teams. Personal:<br />

The daughter of Allison and Robert Vitullo, she is a student in the exploratory<br />

program. Her sister Danielle is a 2009 graduate of <strong>Ithaca</strong>.<br />
