ITHACA COLLEGE
The Ithaca women’s swimming & diving team had a successful year
in 2008-09 that included Empire 8 and Upper New York State
Collegiate Swimming Association titles and a top-20 finish at the
NCAA Division III Women’s & Swimming Championships. Ithaca turned
in especially fast times at the state and conference championship meet in
February where Bomber swimmers set seven championship meet records
and 13 school records. A total of 12 swimmers and divers accounted for 40
all-state honors and eight Empire 8 event championships.
Lauren Botterbusch was named Empire 8 Swimmer of the Year and
coach Paula Miller was named Empire 8 and UNYSCSA Coach of the
Year. Botterbusch was also awarded the Iris
Carnell Senior Athlete of the Year Award, named
for the former coach and administrator at Ithaca
presented to the outstanding female studentathlete
at Ithaca.
UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Championship: The
Bombers scored 1,338 over the three days of
competition in the association championship and
earned 823 points in the Empire 8 portion of
the meet to win both titles. It was Ithaca’s 10th
consecutive Empire 8 title and first UNYSCSA
title in three years, after finishing second the last
two years.
Botterbusch was named Empire 8 Swimmer
Jen Heberton was an
Academic All-American
in the 2008-09 season.

of the Meet after earning three NCAA A provisional
qualifying times during the weekend, winning
both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke
events in association, championship meet, and
school record times as well as achieving the same records on the 200-yard
medley relay team. Botterbusch was also Ithaca’s representative on the
Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year team.
