ITHACA COLLEGE<br />

The <strong>Ithaca</strong> women’s swimming & diving team had a successful year<br />

in 2008-09 that included Empire 8 and Upper New York State<br />

Collegiate Swimming Association titles and a top-20 finish at the<br />

NCAA Division III Women’s & Swimming Championships. <strong>Ithaca</strong> turned<br />

in especially fast times at the state and conference championship meet in<br />

February where Bomber swimmers set seven championship meet records<br />

and 13 school records. A total of 12 swimmers and divers accounted for 40<br />

all-state honors and eight Empire 8 event championships.<br />

Lauren Botterbusch was named Empire 8 Swimmer of the Year and<br />

coach Paula Miller was named Empire 8 and UNYSCSA Coach of the<br />

Year. Botterbusch was also awarded the Iris<br />

Carnell Senior Athlete of the Year Award, named<br />

for the former coach and administrator at <strong>Ithaca</strong><br />

presented to the outstanding female studentathlete<br />

at <strong>Ithaca</strong>.<br />

UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Championship: The<br />

Bombers scored 1,338 over the three days of<br />

competition in the association championship and<br />

earned 823 points in the Empire 8 portion of<br />

the meet to win both titles. It was <strong>Ithaca</strong>’s 10th<br />

consecutive Empire 8 title and first UNYSCSA<br />

title in three years, after finishing second the last<br />

two years.<br />

of the Meet after earning three NCAA A provisional<br />

qualifying times during the weekend, winning<br />

both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke<br />

events in association, championship meet, and<br />

school record times as well as achieving the same records on the 200-yard<br />

medley relay team. Botterbusch was also <strong>Ithaca</strong>’s representative on the<br />

Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year team.
