The stork visited POs M Ross and P Ross, who are proud grandparents 12 The Blue Light District/Unit News Future police officer, Jonathan Williams, falls in line with 003rd District Officers at an outdoor roll call during an anti-violence rally of Janelle Lillian Hood... Welcome and congrats to the newly promoted Sgts R Beck, D Harris, M O’Malley and S Rellinger and Lt R Moran... District events included Black History month. POs C Parker, L Benigno and P Ross hosted an “Open House” that acknowledged black inventors and historians as well as other contributions from blacks.We also recognized March as ‘Womens Month” and hosted a Women Forum at the South Shore Cultural Center. Senior Citizen Officer PO B Jenkins partnered with surrounding senior residents and hosted a Valentine Bingo event using candy hearts as chips... Speaking of Big Hearts, our Senior Advisory Council and Senior Officers D Gadson and R Bullock bagged and distributed fruit to a nearby nursing home...The Tre continues to lead our residents with initiatives that included an Anti- Violence Rally where over 100 citizens rallied and marched against violence... PO M Ross and our Clergy Subcommittee hosted a Spring Break Youth Prayer Rally where over 125 community youth and adults prayed for peace. After the ceremony, the youth played 3 on 3 basketball with some of the officers... PO E Howard hosted our first Landlord Tenant meeting... The Domestic Violence Subcommittee continues to host coffee sips and outreach as it expanded to include schools located within the District. The DV Subcommittee would like to thank all the officers and personnel who contributed books to raise the awareness of Child Abuse Month... A special thanks to all the officers who contributed to the March of Dimes... Once again the Third District scored big in the basketball tournaments held at the Academy. Kudos to Coach POs W Edwards and players E Winters, R Coleman, M Bradley, C Ingrum, D Hines, J Jones, M Holly, J Rattler, J Perez, R McKinzie and D Lee.We took 2 nd place with an outstanding past winning record for the last three years... We’re still champions in the eyes of our smaller citizens who visited the station for a Easter Egg hunt. A special appearance was made by the Easter Bunny and each child was given a photo memento.That’s all folks... These officers apprehended an offender who robbed a bank. All the money was recovered and returned, great job guys!... Our hearts are heavy with the passing of PO Rodney Henson who possessed a wonderful personality, and always made us laugh out loud. He was an outstanding officer and will be greatly missed. He would want all of us to continue to live our lives to the fullest. We love you Rodney, and we miss you... Congrats to Officers and Supervisor of the Month of April: Arleseuia Watson (1 st Watch), Michael Pettis (2 nd Watch), Patrick McKenzie (3 rd Watch), Oscar Artega (Tact) and Sgt Regina Evans. Cmdr Kelly would like to once again thank everyone for doing such a great job. Stay Safe!! PO Michelle Haskins *006* The past few months have been trying and busy for everyone. The War in Iraq brought many demonstrations downtown which meant long hours for assigned officers... We have fellow officers who may have served or know someone who is in Iraq. Our prayers are with these individuals... Our hats go off to POs Michael Brown and James P. Butler II who recently received Dept Commendations... The District has been very busy in the past months. On 29 April, the District held its Annual Job Fair. The turn out was EXCEPTIONAL! Many businesses and companies came out to interview and even hire on the spot many job seekers. PO Roberta Clay and PO Coleman made this event a great success. Citizens attended classes in resume writing and job readiness. This was just the beginning of activities. We advised the senior citizens in the District about services in the City. The Secretary of State Mobile Unit provided vision screening and drivers license renewal for the first 100 active adults... Senior Officer John Heidt was so well informed on services that we had to check his I.D. to see why he knew so much... Hip Hop Wednezdays will begin in early July. Summer activities include tumblers, movies at the 87 th Street Theater and food for all in attendance... I hope everyone has a great and enjoyable summer. Keeping it safe on the home front, Sgts Derrick Shinn, Mark Thompson and Tommy King, along with POs Luther Haynes, Helena Coburn, Edmundo Allion, James Ready and Anthony Aguirre are our newly qualified ASP trainers. Welcome to the new Sgts who have joined our family: Gabriel Flores, Ronald Forgue, Heinz Wieland, Karla Chaplin, James Sanchez, Ignacio Hernandez, Don Jerome, Deanne Owsianiak, John Ryan, and Eleanor Reardon, who thought she had escaped years ago! HA!… PO James Bolen graduates in May with a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Lewis University, with a 4.0 GPA!… PO Charles Galvan and his wife Martha are expecting twins! Must have been the vitamins! There were wedding bells for PO Catherine “Cricket” Carey and PO Dennis Oboikovitz (153). Now she won’t stop showing off her “bling bling”!…Travel Tales: Cancun just won’t be the same once they have been invaded by Sgt Cassandra Judon,POs Stacy Winton-Lewis, Benita Betts, Michelle Cook, Daliah Goree and Joe Wilcox…Finally, the Cmdr’s son, Frank Trigg Jr,made his father proud with his athletic abilities. The freshman, middle linebacker led defense for Mt Carmel, who won the Catholic League Championship. Good luck next season...That’s all for now, remember, stay safe out there!
