THE LAST DAYS ~<br />
the “last days” arrived with Him. He came to bring<br />
in the new age of the Kingdom of God. <strong>The</strong> old age<br />
was winding down, and would be thoroughly abolished<br />
when God destroyed the Temple.<br />
From Pentecost to Holocaust<br />
On the day of Pentecost, when the Spirit had<br />
been poured out and the Christian community spoke<br />
with other tongues, St. Peter declared the Biblical<br />
interpretation of the event:<br />
This is that which was spoken of through<br />
the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall be in th last days,”<br />
God says, “that I will pour out My Spirit upon<br />
all flesh; and your sons and your daughters<br />
shall prophesy, and your young men shall see<br />
visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.<br />
And on My menservants and on My maidservants<br />
I will pour out My Spirit in those days,<br />
and they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in<br />
heaven above and signs in the earth beneath:<br />
blood and fire and vapor of smoke. <strong>The</strong> sun<br />
shall be turned into darkness, and the moon<br />
into blood, before the coming of the great and<br />
glorious Day of the, Lord. And it shall be that<br />
whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be<br />
saved” (Acts 2:16-21).<br />
We have already seen how the ‘Mood and fire<br />
and vapor of smoke” and the signs in the sun and the<br />
moon were fulfilled in the destruction of Jerusalem.<br />
