Village Services & Regulations Blood <strong>Press</strong>ure Testing Free testing is available every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at any of the three fire stations. Local Television Programming Local programming is cablecast on Comcast on the following stations: • Northbrook Community Television: Channel 17 • Glenbrook North High School: Channel 16 • School Districts 27, 28, 30 and 31: Channel 15 AT&T customers can tune to channel 99 and search “Northbrook” to view NCTV-channel 17. Village Board and Plan Commission meetings are streamed live and archived at www.northbrook.il.us Correspondence (postage-free green drop boxes) Four drop boxes are available for village correspondence and water bill payments: Northbrook Village Hall, commuter train station at 1340 Shermer Rd., Police Station at 1401 Landwehr Rd.; and Wood Oaks Junior High at 1250 Sanders Rd. Waste Disposal • Residential Refuse – Residential refuse collection and disposal service by Veolia Waste Services at (847) 272-4145. Every household receives a recycling cart free of charge. • Business Refuse – call Village Hall ext. 4224) for a list of licensed scavenger services. • Yard Waste – Yard waste must be placed in approved biodegradable bags with special stickers. Bags are available at stores. Stickers cost $2.00 each and are available at Village Hall and local stores. • Hazardous Waste – Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) holds household hazardous waste collection sites in the fall and spring. For details, log onto www.swalco.org and www.epa.state.il.us • Bulk Pick-Up – Veolia provides one free bulk pick-up, up to three cubic yards per household, per year. Scheduled for Wednesday of each week. Lawn Watering Lawn watering is prohibited weekdays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. from May 15 to September 15. Adults are considered liable for underage consumption of alcohol that occurs in their home. Call (847) 564-2060 for information. Pet Licenses and Regulations Dogs and cats must be licensed each year by July 1. To obtain a tag, you must present a current rabies immunization certificate with a completed application available at Village Hall. Dogs may not run free except on the owner’s property. Walkers of leashed dogs must dispose of waste properly. Over three animals (any combo) require breeder/hobbyist permit. Senior Citizen & Disabled Persons Taxi Service Subsidies are available to eligible senior citizens and disabled persons. Call Northbrook Village Hall at (847) 272-5050, ext. 4227 for further information. Solicitation Door-to-door solicitors must obtain a permit from the Village. Residents who do not want solicitors to call must display a “No Solicitors” notice, available free of charge at the Village Hall. Vehicle Stickers All vehicles registered to Northbrook residents or garaged locally must display valid Village stickers. Stickers purchased through June 30 cost $30 for passenger cars; $15 reduction for seniors. Cost after June 30 is $38; $19 for seniors. Water Utility Those moving in or out of Northbrook must update their water billing information through the Finance Department. Water usage is billed quarterly. Call (847) 272-5050 Ext. 4233 Winter Parking After a snowfall of 2 or more inches, motorists may not park on Village streets until they have been plowed. Residents with properties adjacent to fire hydrants are responsible for clearing snow around hydrants. Wood Chips Free wood chips are available to residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the Public Works Center. Bring your own containers. Bill Kurtis helps with recycling efforts on Earth Day 2011.
