The signing ceremony of the School of<br />

Management and the Honors MBA Strategic<br />

Development Plan took place in the presence of<br />

President Prof. Rivka Carmi, Rector Prof. Jimmy<br />

Weinblatt and Prof. Arie Reichel, Dean of the School<br />

of Management. Prof. Amos Drory moderated a<br />

panel discussion of “The Future of Management in<br />

Israel,” participants in which included Roy J.<br />

Zuckerberg and Prof. Ehud Houminer, Chairman of<br />

the Advisory Board of the Honors MBA Program at<br />

BGU and Columbia University.<br />

The Zlotowski Annual Lecture, held in the presence<br />

of Suzanne Zlotowski and Adelene Zlotowski, was<br />

given by Prof. Rafael Mechoulam of the Hebrew<br />

University of Jerusalem, who spoke on “The<br />

Dis<strong>cover</strong>y of a New Major Regulatory System in<br />

Biology.”<br />

The Adam Klug Memorial Lecture, entitled “Economic<br />

Growth in Developing Countries: Prospects<br />

and Challenges in the Coming Decade,”<br />

was delivered by Nobel laureate and<br />

Honorary Doctorate recipient Prof. A.<br />

Michael Spence of Stanford<br />

University. The audience was<br />

comprised of colleagues, friends<br />

and University staff and students,<br />

as well as family members, including<br />

Prof. Aaron and Liebe Klug, parents of the<br />

late Prof. Adam Klug, and family.<br />

At the Irene and Hyman Kreitman Annual Memorial<br />

Lecture, President of the Supreme Court of Israel<br />

Justice Prof. Aharon Barak spoke on “The Role of a<br />

Judge in a Democracy” to a packed auditorium that<br />

included students, faculty and members of the legal<br />

profession in the Southern region.<br />

A ceremony was held marking the inauguration<br />

of a Career Development Chair in Engineering<br />

Sciences, established by Dr. Gabi and Eng. Max<br />

Lichtenberg from Israel and Florida. Incumbent of<br />

the Chair is Dr. Yuval Elovici from the Department<br />

of Information Systems Engineering.<br />

The Sylvia A. Brodsky Psychological Walk-In<br />

Service Within the Psychological Services Unit of<br />

the Dean of Students Office was dedicated in the<br />

presence of Sylvia Brodsky and her daughter Sandra<br />

from Philadelphia. This much-needed service will<br />

provide students under stress with immediate<br />

recourse to guidance and counseling. At the<br />

ceremony, Dr. Eva Shinar, Head of the Student<br />

Psychological Services, lectured on “A University<br />

Psychological Service – An Answer to the Emotional<br />

Difficulties of the Young Student.”<br />

The Stanley and Jeanne Abensur Molecular and<br />

Cell Biology Teaching Laboratory was dedicated in<br />

the presence of Stanley and Jeanne Abensur of<br />

Switzerland. Also from Switzerland, Laurence and<br />

Dan Ohayon represented their father, Abraham<br />

Chief Justice Prof. Aharon Barak lectures at the Irene<br />

and Hyman Kreitman Annual Memorial Lecture.<br />

Ben-David Ohayon, at the cornerstone-laying<br />

ceremony of the Abraham Ben-David Ohayon<br />

Behavioral Sciences Building.<br />

A symposium on the subject of “Biotechnology<br />

– Industry and Academia” was held in honor of<br />

Yair Green, Advocate, and Morris S. Kahn, under<br />

the auspices of the National Institute for<br />

Biotechnology in the Negev (NIBN), founded by<br />

Edgar D. de Picciotto. Moderated by Prof. Raymond<br />

Dwek FRS, Head of the Department of Biochemistry<br />

at the University of Oxford, UK, members of the<br />

panel included BGU President Prof. Rivka Carmi;
