Polyg<strong>on</strong>um type. Multicellular archesporium is a<br />

family character <strong>of</strong> the Pae<strong>on</strong>iaceae. Dane (1997)<br />

observed the multicellular archesporium developed<br />

into multiple megaspore mother cells giving rise to<br />

banches <strong>of</strong> megaspore tetrads in P. tenuifolia. As a<br />

result, 2 or 3 embryo sacs were seen in <strong>on</strong>e ovule in<br />

this species.<br />
