Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring (CAAQM) stations for Bangalore City<br />
Two CAAQM stations at Bangalore, one with KSPCB’s own funding and the other with Rs. 50 lakh (50%<br />
capital cost) assistance from the Central <strong>Pollution</strong> <strong>Control</strong> <strong>Board</strong> (CPCB), New Delhi is being established<br />
for strengthening the air quality monitoring in the Bangalore City. The procurement work has been entrusted<br />
to M/s. RITES, Delhi and the equipments will be commissioned during 20<strong>06</strong> -07.<br />
5.3 The Noise <strong>Pollution</strong> (Regulation and <strong>Control</strong>) Rules, 2000<br />
The <strong>Board</strong> is monitoring noise levels whenever specific complaints on noise pollution are received and<br />
action is being taken accordingly.<br />
Complaints pertaining to noise pollution emanating from D.G.Sets, power looms and tiny fabrication units<br />
located in the residential area are attended to immediately by directing the concerned owner to provide<br />
acoustic measures to bring down the noise level to the prescribed limits within the stipulated time.<br />
The <strong>Board</strong> has undertaken monitoring of noise level emanating during bursting of fire crackers during<br />
Deepavali festival at 38 stations. The monitoring has been done in all district head quarters on 25th, 31st<br />
of October & 1st & 2nd November <strong>2005</strong>. The maximum noise level recorded in different districts, Leq<br />
ranges from 17.5 dB (A) to 88 dB (A), in industrial zone, 45 dB (A) to 88.58 dB (A) in commercial zone,<br />
41.83 dB (A) to 101.92 dB (A) in residential zone and 39.92 dB (A) to 68.58 dB (A) in silence zone.<br />
6.0 Present state of environmental problems and counter measures:<br />
The <strong>Karnataka</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Pollution</strong> <strong>Control</strong> <strong>Board</strong> has brought 39,083 units (this includes 26,001 industries, 532<br />
hotels, 2022 Coffee pulping units, 576 mines, 9,726 Hospitals and 226 local bodies) under pollution control<br />
laws during the reporting period. 1,565 working industries have been covered under the Hazardous Waste<br />
(Management & Handling) Rules, 1989 & as amended from time to time.<br />
The major industrial centers of <strong>Karnataka</strong> are Bangalore, Mysore, Nanjangud, Shimoga, Bhadravathi, Harihar,<br />
Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, Tumkur, Belgaum, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bidar, Bellary and Kolar.<br />
Prominent industries in the <strong>State</strong> are Pulp & Paper, Sugar, Distillery, Cement, Engineering, Electronics,<br />
Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, Mining industries, Software, Garment stitching and washing industries.<br />
There are certain river stretches in the <strong>State</strong> which are receiving treated trade effluent directly. The<br />
stretches are as follows:<br />
1. Kudremukh, Chikmagalore District (Bhadra River).<br />
2. Bhadravathi (Bhadra River).<br />
3. Harihar (T.B.River).<br />
4. Dandeli (Kali River).
