The Cleveland HS iGreen Team’s winning proposal included substantial sustainable elements, thus reflecting one of ULI’s three top priorities. The Cleveland High School iGreen Team presented its winning project to the LAUSD Board of Education on June 26. This is the second consecutive year that the UrbanPlan winning team has been invited to make a presentation to the LAUSD Board of Education. The UrbanPlan program instills responsibility, accountability, and determination in its participants… Through the UrbanPlan program, I no longer feel discouraged about my community. Convening 28,000 Attendees Convening Since 1999 Lydia Kennard, Mercedes Márquez, Jovana Lara, Barbara Busse, and Pat Means featured at “Women Who Shape Leadership” program. On May 15 the initial ULI Infrastructure drop-in program was held at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce concurrent with the release of the ULI publication “Infrastructure 2008: A Competitive Advantage.” On May 22, a program on leadership was held at the Center for Democracy in relationship to ULI Life Trustee Buzz McCoy’s new book “Living Into Leadership: A Journey in Ethics.” On April 28 a program on women in leadership was held at Loyola Marymount University titled “Women Who Shape Leadership in Los Angeles.” On May 1, Rand Corporation hosted a ULI LA program on “Surviving in Uncertain Times” which was led by ULI Life Trustee Stan Ross. The Rand Corporation headquarters is a recipient of the 2006 ULI Award for Excellence and is also a LEED Gold building. The ULI LA YLG conducted an educational forum at SPF:a on the important topic of “Green Development.” Early in the fiscal year on July 19, ULI LA held a successful program at Paul Hastings on “Do Real Planning” that featured the City of LA Planning Commission and Planning Director Gail Goldberg. This program was followed less than a week later with the Annual My ULI Night at the Wells Fargo Center in downtown LA that attracted over 300 attendees for this thank-you and membership recruitment event. On November 28 the Annual ULI Emerging Trends conference took place at the Center for Democracy. On January 31 the ULI LA YLG held a successful program on ‘Playa Vista’ which was attended by over 300 people. During the course of the fiscal year, ULI LA was a co-sponsor or cooperating organization for UCLA’s Sustainability Summit; the Los Angeles Business Council Mayoral Housing Summit; the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Summit; the GreenXchange Conference; the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ‘Nuts & Bolts’ seminar on brownfields development; and the USC Real Estate Law and Business Symposium. ULI LA also participated in the planning committee for the Annual ULI Reinventing Retail Conference that took place in February. In addition, ULI LA assisted the ULI West Region Office (WRO) with a tour of Australian real estate developers that took place in June. ULI LA continued its key role with other California District Councils in the California 2020 project. ULI LA also served as the host District Council along with ULI WRO for the September Infrastructure Summit. ULI LA was also represented at the ULI WRO Workforce and Affordable Housing Summit in Boulder, Colorado in April. These programs included ones with a focus on Infrastructure, Sustainability and Workforce and Affordable Housing.
