On May 15 the initial <strong>ULI</strong> Infrastructure drop-in program was held at the Hollywood Chamber of<br />
Commerce concurrent with the release of the <strong>ULI</strong> publication “Infrastructure 2008: A Competitive<br />
Advantage.” On May 22, a program on leadership was held at the Center for Democracy in relationship to<br />
<strong>ULI</strong> Life Trustee Buzz McCoy’s new book “Living Into Leadership: A Journey in Ethics.” On April 28 a<br />
program on women in leadership was held at Loyola Marymount University titled “Women Who Shape<br />
Leadership in <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong>.” On May 1, Rand Corporation hosted a <strong>ULI</strong> LA program on “Surviving in<br />
Uncertain Times” which was led by <strong>ULI</strong> Life Trustee Stan Ross. The Rand Corporation headquarters is<br />
a recipient of the 2006 <strong>ULI</strong> Award for Excellence and is also a LEED Gold building. The <strong>ULI</strong> LA YLG<br />
conducted an educational forum at SPF:a on the important topic of “Green Development.” Early in the<br />
fiscal year on July 19, <strong>ULI</strong> LA held a successful program at Paul Hastings on “Do Real Planning” that<br />
featured the City of LA Planning Commission and Planning Director Gail Goldberg. This program was<br />
followed less than a week later with the Annual My <strong>ULI</strong> Night at the Wells Fargo Center in downtown LA<br />
that attracted over 300 attendees for this thank-you and membership recruitment event. On November 28<br />
the Annual <strong>ULI</strong> Emerging Trends conference took place at the Center for Democracy. On January 31 the<br />
<strong>ULI</strong> LA YLG held a successful program on ‘Playa Vista’ which was attended by over 300 people.<br />
During the course of the fiscal year, <strong>ULI</strong> LA was a co-sponsor or cooperating organization for<br />
UCLA’s Sustainability Summit; the <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Business Council Mayoral Housing Summit;<br />
the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Summit; the GreenXchange<br />
Conference; the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ‘Nuts & Bolts’ seminar on brownfields<br />
development; and the USC Real Estate Law and Business Symposium.<br />
<strong>ULI</strong> LA also participated in the planning committee for the Annual <strong>ULI</strong> Reinventing Retail Conference<br />
that took place in February. In addition, <strong>ULI</strong> LA assisted the <strong>ULI</strong> West Region Office (WRO) with a<br />
tour of Australian real estate developers that took place in June. <strong>ULI</strong> LA continued its key role with<br />
other California District Councils in the California 2020 project. <strong>ULI</strong> LA also served as the host District<br />
Council along with <strong>ULI</strong> WRO for the September Infrastructure Summit. <strong>ULI</strong> LA was also represented at<br />
the <strong>ULI</strong> WRO Workforce and Affordable Housing Summit in Boulder, Colorado in April.<br />

Under the able leadership of <strong>ULI</strong> LA Programs Chair David<br />
Waite, Partner in the Law Firm of Jeffer, Mangels, Butler &<br />
Marmaro, LLP, conducted a series of successful programs<br />
this fiscal year. These programs included ones with a<br />
focus on Infrastructure, Sustainability and Workforce and<br />
Affordable Housing.
