As a Japanese person living in
London, I very much appreciated
your comment before the
concert today at the Barbican.
Most of us here have difficulty in
watching footage on tv and the
fact we live far away from home
makes us worry more and more.
I hope music will give us strength
and people severely damaged in
Japan will get through in a few
years time.

For the first time I don’t have to
go to the Barbican to watch my
favourite orchestra.
I got my LSO while sitting in
my living room in a village on a
Lebanese mountain, watching
the beautiful performance of
Mahler’s only movement of the
tenth, and the ninth symphony.
Thanks to Mezzo Satellite
Channel, and thanks to the LSO.
Hope to see more back at the
Barbican this summer.

‘So privileged to be there’

After Kavakos’ phenomenal
playing on Thursday 24th I saw
something I’d never seen before.
The audience didn’t dash out
for their interval drinks and the
orchestra applauded. I’ve seen
genteel tapping of bows on desks
before but never musicians
applauding another. He took five
calls and then an encore.
I was so privileged to be there as
I don’t think I’ll ever witness such
playing again. Thank you.
