SB2042 Preliminary Teaching Credential Upon completion of the teacher preparation coursework, candidates are eligible to apply to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing for an SB2042 Preliminary Teaching Credential with formal recommendation from Biola University. Applications for the Preliminary Teaching credential will require: application processing fee to Biola University, official transcripts verifying Baccalaureate degree and successful completion of the teacher preparation program, passing scores on state exams (CBEST, CSET, RICA), proof of meeting the US Constitution requirement, passing scores on TPA‘s #1 through #4, and current CPR certification for infant, child and adult. Special Education Certificate The School of Education at Biola University offers an online institution-sponsored 12-unit certificate in Special Education. This certificate assists regular classroom teachers who serve special needs students, teachers who plan to later earn their Special Education Credential, and administrators and curriculum specialists who desire to strengthen their special education expertise. The 12-unit Special Education Certificate can be taken as a stand-alone program or can be embedded as part of a 15-unit concentration in Biola‘s MAT Personalized or MAEd Personalized Emphasis programs. See further more information at: http://www.biola.edu/academics/education/grad/programs/sec/ Teacher Preparation Program Biola is one of the few universities that coordinate teacher preparation courses with undergraduate majors in order to earn a credential by the end of the senior year. Candidates also have the option of completing a portion of the Teacher Preparation Program as an undergraduate at Biola and then transitioning seamlessly into the graduate program to complete the credential after earning the bachelor‘s degree. The entire credential may be earned at the undergraduate or graduate level. The SB2042 Professional Teacher Preparation Programs are available for Single Subject and Multiple Subject credentials and are accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). http://www.biola.edu/academics/education/grad/programs/credentials/ Multiple Subject Credential. The SB2042 Multiple Subject Credential authorizes instruction in any self-contained classroom for grades K-12, preschool, and classes organized primarily for adults but is especially appropriate for grades K-6. This credential also includes authorization to teach English Language Learners. Undergraduate students interested in teaching in the elementary schools are advised to take the Liberal Studies major: Elementary Education concentration, which includes the required teacher preparation and pedagogy courses. Single Subject Credential. The SB2042 Single Subject Credential authorizes instruction in the subjects listed on the credential in departmentalized classes at any grade level including preschool, grades K-12 and classes organized primarily for adults, but is especially appropriate for middle school and high school. This credential also includes authorization to teach English Language Learners. Passage of the appropriate CSET exam or completion of a state-authorized subject area program will be required for students to earn a Single-Subject credential. Students who wish to complete the graduate teacher preparation program formally apply through the graduate admissions office. Candidates must also verify possession of a Certificate of Clearance from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing prior to registration for SEED519 in order to participate in the required fieldwork sequence. Information regarding the application process for the Certificate of Clearance can be obtained in the School of Education office. Application Process. Candidates will submit an application to graduate admissions which will include personal contact information, academic background, references, essay questions, CBEST registration verification, verification of passage of at least one of the CSET tests, and proof of a 2.75 GPA.
